yoctozeptoalready there12:52
yoctozeptoheating seats12:52
fungidon't drink all the coffee, leave some for the rest of us12:53
yoctozeptooh, sorry12:53
yoctozeptozoom warned me fungi's audio is unencrypted13:05
yoctozeptoand can leak our discussions :-(13:06
fungiyeah, for some reason sound has stopped working with the zoom webclient for me, so i'm using dial-in for the audio stream13:07
yoctozeptooh, understood13:07
fungiit was operating up until a few weeks ago, not sure what changed (sound still works fine with meetpad/jitsi-meet in the exact same browser)13:07
yoctozeptoI know the drill, these like to break13:08

fungii won't be around for the next hour's discussion since it overlaps with opendev collaboratory ptg time, but look forward to notes/takeaways from the discussion13:51
yoctozeptofungi: good luck with that meeting, I hope it works for you14:06

ttxTheJulia: I was wondering if formalizing your proposal into a ML thread could help us, including getting to the bottom of the testing matrix concerns15:02
ttxLike maybe we could express dependencies more strongly if we introduce changes that require nova X to work with Cinder >Y15:03
ttxAlso I wonder how often such breakage happens15:04
ttxRe: FFU education, it would also be interesting to ask people, if it does not work for them, why? Maybe we are missing something15:05
ttxMaybe we could say that you either run stable/wallaby, or HEAD of xena15:06
ttx(both are tested)15:06
ttxif you run anything else, you're on your own15:08
fungiit definitely happens. the wallaby release of openstacksdk introduced a hard dependency on a wallaby feature of neutron, for example, which opendev started hitting in production as soon as it was released15:12
dansmithfungi: that seems like a violation of the client rules, no?15:40
dansmithI wouldn't really consider that to be related to upgrade of the server side, unless it meant that server-to-server stuff broke15:40
fungiyes, i don't think it was intentional, just a lack of testing15:40
dansmithwhich is exactly my point about the test matrix explosion - if nova uses a new sdk to talk to neutron and we release a new nova with that requirement and someone hasn't upgraded their neutron, that's a breakage15:41
dansmithand so we have to test that to make sure we don't accidentally introduce that problem15:41
fungiso i agree it's not an case of new cinder not working with old nova or vice versa, but an example of how not testing those things means we can't assume they work15:41
dansmithyup15:41
dansmithtotally agree.. there was some discussion about just loosening the requirements and not testing all the combinations, but I just think that means people will be _more_ afraid of upgrade15:42
fungifor things with longish release cycles, running some of those cross-release jobs on branches periodically could make sense as a compromise15:43
jungleboyjFYI, I will be mobile for the first hour or so tomorrow but will dial in.15:48
