mattoliveraumahatic, janonymous morning.04:27
notmynamehola04:28
mahaticclayg: bug 1496234 doesn't seem valid? Please refer to my comment there04:36
openstackbug 1496234 in OpenStack Object Storage (swift) "EC: etag of range request is not consistent" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/149623404:36
claygmahatic: reversing the order?  like assetEqual(read_md5, getresponse.header) werx?04:37
mahaticclayg: yeah04:37
claygbut it fails if you do it the other way?04:38
claygthat's crazy04:38
mattoliveraunotmyname: hola!04:38
mahaticyeah, maybe something to do with response.read happening before/after?04:38
clayganyway - i'm pretty sure the bug is valid - but yeah that bug report is crap04:38
claygi guess I figured a failing functional tests would be sufficient to describe the error - but that was stupid04:38
mahaticcouldn't pin point why04:38
claygmahatic: me either - try stashing them in temporary vars and printing them out04:39
claygmahatic: also make sure you're running the test against an EC policy - as the replicated policy is expected to work (that's not super clear in the bug report - again my bad)_04:39
claygmahatic: try to reason about what the test is doing and see if you can craft a range request by hand with curl to an ec object - see if you think the etag looks valid04:40
mahaticclayg: yeah I did test it against EC. It was failing with your func test assert04:40
mahaticclayg: I was playing around and did the md5 thing before and it wasn't throwing the error04:40
claygmahatic: ok well the order shouldn't matter - that doesn't make any sense04:40
claygeither we're returning the etag of the original object and not some bs frag etag and the bug is invalid04:41
claygor we're *not* returning the etag of the original object on ec range gets and the bug stands w/ or w/o my crappy test04:41
janonymousmorning all :)04:43
claygi guess that self.env.conn is basically a global - maybe it doesn't updated until something churns in read_md5 - i may not have noticed it because I was expecting the failure04:43
claygmahatic: maybe it is fixed now?  you should add a test to prove it - or track down the commit that fixed it and put it in the bug "fixed in <sha>"04:43
mahaticclayg: self.env.conn being global makes sense. I put the gist there just by reversing the parameters04:44
claygwbhuber: also confirmed lp bug #1496234 - you might ask if he just tried the functest patch and saw it fail - or if he acctually made a range request to ec object and watched the etag come back wrong?04:45
openstackLaunchpad bug 1496234 in OpenStack Object Storage (swift) "EC: etag of range request is not consistent" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/149623404:45
mahaticclayg: think it needs a diff test?04:45
mahaticyeah will check04:45
mahaticclayg: it didnt work for you when you tried with curl and hence the report?04:47
claygmahatic: yeah - but i mean that bug was filed 2015-09-1504:51
claygmahatic: it could totally be fixed now - i'm rebuilding my saio04:52
*** jamielennox is now known as jamielennox|away04:54
mahaticclayg: I tried it with curl for a ranged EC object. It gives me etag of the whole of object04:58
claygcool - must be fixed then!04:58
claygmahatic: this was for a ranged request?04:58
mahaticclayg: yup04:58
mahaticsorry worded it bad04:58
claygmahatic: specifically it was some kind of range requests that *failed* - 41604:58
*** klrmn has quit IRC04:59
mahaticclayg: oh i see05:00
claygmahatic: no it looks legit to me05:01
claygwell, idk - idk what that flipping env.getheader nonsense is doing05:01
claygi just want a http response - then I want to look at the f'ing header05:02
claygI think maybe calling the thing on the file acctually makes a request?05:02
clayglike you have the data - another way to say it would be md5(data).hexdigest - but I think the response header on the 416 is still bad05:03
*** haomaiwang has joined #openstack-swift05:04
mahatici think it does actually make a request and that self.conn.env seems global05:04
claygmahatic: ok, so those tests are crap - but they were acctually demonstrating the problem of the bug which I just confirmed again - so you can use that test or not - but flipping the order does do what you want05:08
mahaticclayg: yes I tried for a 416 using curl and there the etag was not right05:09

tdasilvaso, I'm trying to understand the use of .rlistings when setting container ACLs, but haven't been able to figure it out.17:46
tdasilvaI found a blog that says: "Read privileges alone do not allow a user to list the contents of a container. To allow this add the .rlistings directive. This will allow any user with read privileges for the container to also retrieve an object list for the container."17:46
tdasilvabut that doesn't seem to be true17:46
timburketdasilva: iirc, it depends on whether this is for a user or for referrer-based access. may also depend on auth system17:48

tdasilvahi, i'm running into a problem testing swift client and acl and was wondering if somebody can help. Basically, setting write access to a container allows users to write to a container with curl but not with swift client, because swift client tries to do a HEAD on the account: http://ur1.ca/okh8h20:08
*** petertr7 is now known as petertr7_away20:08
tdasilvais this a known issue, am i missing something? any ideas?20:08
timburkeknown issue. if you add --leave-segments, swiftclient won't do the object HEAD. the container PUT will still warn, but it's harmless20:10
timburke(or at least, known to me ;-)20:10
jrichlitorgomatic: thanks for the review on patch 282578 and for the tip about disable_fallocate!20:10
patchbotjrichli: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/282578/ - swift - Set backend content length for fallocate - EC Policy20:10
tdasilvatimburke: heh :), thanks! let me give that a try20:10
torgomaticjrichli: yw20:11
tdasilvatimburke: voila20:12
timburketdasilva: i suppose we could have the HEAD do a similar warning and not actually fail unless the PUT fails. i'm not sure i like it, though; that seems likely to leave orphaned segments when working with xLOs20:20
tdasilvatimburke: it seems that in previous versions the client would issue a HEAD on the account before doing a PUT on the container, but latest versions just try the PUT directly20:22
timburkehuh. i wonder what we were trying to do with that HEAD...20:22
tdasilvayeah, weird...i'm seeing that in 2.3.120:23
tdasilvabut not on latest20:23
*** NM has quit IRC20:24
tdasilvatimburke: have we considered a more direct approach of just trying a PUT on the object first, and then if that fails, try a PUT on the container to create the container?20:25
timburketdasilva: ah, apparently an attempt to verify the account exists: https://github.com/openstack/python-swiftclient/blob/2.3.1/swiftclient/service.py#L118020:25
timburkei think part of the rationale is that we're going to have a bunch of object upload threads going; better to attempt to create the container once than to have 10 threads all try at once20:27
tdasilvamm...still could try just one of the 10 first :P20:27
