GB21Hi, What are the minimum hardware requirements to run searchlight in devstack? It looks like I might be short of resources09:44
lakshmiS_searchlight itself doesnt need much but the dependencies like elasticsearch has some requirements but for development mode it shouldnt need a lot10:10
GB21lakshmiS_, when I ran stack.sh after pasting the configurations as u provided, it dumped the files10:13
GB21it says memory full10:13
lakshmiS_whats your configuration10:13
GB21its 6gb ram, and I am using ubuntu in vbox which takes about 3gb of it10:14
*** lakshmiS_ has quit IRC10:18
*** lakshmiS has joined #openstack-searchlight10:18
lakshmiSGB21: I run a similary vm with 3gb ram and 2 processors10:19
lakshmiSyou could probably remove unwanted services from localrc10:19
GB21lakshmiS, alright, trying it again10:20
lakshmiSdevstack never installs successfully on first/second/... attempt for me too. good luck10:21
GB21lakshmiS, Heehee, I am used to it now, I will keep trying until it does10:30
GB21:D10:30
lakshmiS`sometimes its just luck since you are using the latest master. if its broken, alternatively you could use a latest stable branch on devstack10:32
GB21alright, I will try with the stable branch10:32
lakshmiStry stable/liberty10:35

TravTrosmaita: lakshmiS: gb21: nikhil: sigmavirus24: kragniz: itisha: briancline: FYI that the US time change messed me up on meeting times today.15:58
sigmavirus24lol15:58
TravTwe meet at 15:00 on Thursdays, which google is kind enough to inform me was an hour ago15:58
lakshmiShmm15:58
sigmavirus24it was15:58
sigmavirus24exchange can do utc timezones15:58
sigmavirus24I had mine in UTC15:58
sigmavirus24But I'm not attending meetings at the moment15:58
sigmavirus24too busy with work things15:59
TravTyeah, I should have don that.15:59
TravTsigmavirus24: yep, i figured as much for you.15:59
brianclinewhat's the UTC time for the meeting?15:59
TravT15:0015:59
TravThttp://eavesdrop.openstack.org/#Searchlight_Team_Meeting15:59
TravTI don't know about the rest of you, but my jetlag has been pretty awful this week.16:00
sigmavirus24TravT: if you see Steve, let him know about github.com/sigmavirus24/openstack-ansible-searchlight16:00
TravTsigmavirus24: cool!16:00
sigmavirus24It's not quite done yet, but more testing would be helpful16:00
sigmavirus24I probably need to vendor some more libraries from openstack/openstack-ansible16:00
sigmavirus24But... otherwise should be good16:00
rosmaitahello all16:00
brianclineTravT: yeah, mine too. I'm still adjusting. body is waking me up at really strange times since it's ready to go16:00
TravTyes, steve got home late last night and sent a message that he came down with the flu or something like that.16:00
lakshmiSnot much for me. just few hours diff16:01
TravTso, i'm not sure if he'll show up online today or not.16:01
TravTi've been crashing really hard mid afternoon. and then waking up multiple times at night.16:01
TravTsigmavirus24: i saw your bug on the autogenerated config16:02
brianclineouch, yeah. I'm lucky to make it to 7pm16:02
TravTsigmavirus24: FYI a guy at Redhat also submitted up an RPM package for searchlight.16:03
sigmavirus24TravT: yeah but distro packages are almost always awful16:03
TravTlol, i won't tell him.16:04
sigmavirus24They make their own assumptions and tend to do half of the config for you16:04
sigmavirus24Debian is stuck on Keystone v216:04
sigmavirus24STILL16:04
TravT:(16:04
brianclineeven in the sid packages?16:04
sigmavirus24That's because the company that pays the debian package maintainer hasn't upgraded their own pile of shit to keystone v3216:04
TravThe was asking me a bunch of questions about config, which I sent him a massive email about.16:04
sigmavirus24briancline: as I understand it every package is using v2 and is hardcoded to do so16:05
brianclinewow16:05
TravTwow, that's kind of shocking.16:05
sigmavirus24briancline: don't worry about it, it's fine16:05
sigmavirus24Because according to the package maintainer v3 breaks everything16:05
sigmavirus24They dont' even have to test liberty or anything16:05
sigmavirus24They just *know* it's broken16:05
sigmavirus24(because their employer told them so)16:06
* TravT rolls eyes16:06
sigmavirus24the docs team is fighting them about this for adding the debian install guide back16:06
sigmavirus24also debian packages force the user to interact with the installation process using debconf unless the installer has automation around debconf16:06
sigmavirus24so the install guide for debian includes screenshots while no other distro does16:06
TravTso, sigmavirus24, do you want us to check out / test your github repo before sumitting it to osad?16:07
TravThow does that usually work with osad?16:08
sigmavirus24TravT: oh right now I'm just playign with stuff for fun16:08
sigmavirus24I need to refine the instructions16:08
sigmavirus24I know Steve was looking at making a role for searchlight16:08
sigmavirus24Figured if we make it general enough we could both use it16:08
TravTok. cool.16:08
sigmavirus24OSA will accept it when it works I think16:08
sigmavirus24(Which it doesn't right now because of the config stuff)16:09
sigmavirus24(I'm also not using the tag but following master)16:09
sigmavirus24(Because that's a thign I'm passionate about)16:09
TravTour lead architect for Helion OS is sending us a bunch of questions about installing it... though mostly related to rabbitMQ queues16:09
sigmavirus24mhm16:09
TravTwe need to get oslo messaging pools figured out.16:10
TravTor more correctly, get that fixed so we can use rabbit queues16:10
TravTbriancline: lakshmiS: we definitely need to dive into the whole swift integration more deeply16:11
TravTwhen do you want to do that?  i'd like to wait until sjmc7 (steve) is back available, so today isn't great.16:12
lakshmiSyeah lets plan to meet to discuss next steps16:12
brianclineyeah, that would be helpful. today's not good for me either. possibly tomorrow?16:30
brianclineTravT: you're on mountain time right?16:30
brianclinelakshmiS: what time zone are you in?16:30
lakshmiSIndia16:31
TravTyeah, i'm in mountain time16:31
TravTsjmc7 is in central16:31
TravTmaybe we could shoot for Monday or Tuesday?16:31
lakshmiSaround this time works better for me but we could do in the US evening too16:31
lakshmiSbriancline: whats your timezone16:34
brianclineMonday or Tuesday would work for me too, if we want to aim for close to this time, then 9am or 10am should be fine16:35
brianclinelakshmiS: central us16:35
TravTHow about Tuesday at this time: http://everytimezone.com/#2015-11-10,180,cn316:35
TravTI could also do Friday (tomorrow at this time), but steve isn't around.16:36
TravTso probably better to give hime a day.16:36
brianclineif lakshmiS is good with that, then sounds good to me16:36
lakshmiSthat works for me too16:36
TravTOk, let's do that.  Let's start in this IRC room and then jump out to a google hangout or something as needed16:37
TravTis that okay?16:37
lakshmiSsounds good16:37

openstackgerritIan Cordasco proposed openstack/searchlight: Include oslo.messaging options in generated config  https://review.openstack.org/24220019:33
