AJaegerjamespage: do you want charm-aodh to be part of Big Tent?10:42
jamespageAJaeger, yes, and there are a few other new charms as well (see gnuoy's designate charm reviews)10:42
jamespageAJaeger, I'll need to add them to the goverance projects.yaml right?10:42
AJaegerjamespage: then follow http://docs.openstack.org/infra/manual/creators.html#add-new-repository-to-the-governance-repository and create a new governance patch and link these - using needed-by/depends-on.10:43

jamespageAJaeger, gotcha10:43
jamespageAJaeger, I am the PTL yes10:44
AJaegerjamespage: adding additional repos to governance is for the PTL a mere formality (house-keeping), no TC voting needed. Therefore now: First project-config patch merges, then governance for house-keeping - I just like to see everything up for review.10:44

AJaegerzigo, see my comment - I think we should keep the non-dev item. Do you think it's fine as is or is there an error in it?14:21
zigofungi: python3-all-dev already contains a dependency on python3-all, and this means "all python3 versions available in the current system", meaning Py 3.4 in Trusty & Jessie, and 3.5 in Xenial & Stretch.14:21

fungii don't have a strong opinion on it either way. if projects want to pare back their individual other-requirements.txt files they can replace python3-all-dev with python3-all. i don't mind individual projects declaring more packages than they need, as long as the net result is that the (non-python) packages they do need to run their tests get installed14:25

pabelangerclarkb: ianw: if everybody is fine with that, we should land that before tomorrows builds.  nodepool-builder will need a reset too22:38
SpamapSjeblair: also, another consideration is a uuid that is packed down into a binary() column, which is faster than varchar22:38
SpamapSjeblair: so each unique build gets a uuid, and how many things join to that uuid?22:38
clarkbpabelanger: can you fix the package deps isntead?22:38
clarkbpabelanger: looks like you can just not install npm?22:39
jeblairSpamapS: yeah -- a table with builds (20k per day, each build has a uuid), joined with a table with metadata for each build... not sure how much metadata yet, let's say around 10 rows for each build...22:40
jeblair(i'm still reading the patch)22:40
SpamapSactually, let me explain the problem: varchar(36), which is most often used for uuid's, in a utf8 table, will make index keys that are 108 bytes wide because InnoDB wants to use fixed-width b-tree keys.22:40

jeblairSpamapS: now that i have done this math, i think i would like to ask you to actually review the schema in the patch :)22:41
jeblaircause i think the volume here will make the details important22:41
SpamapSso if you have 1 million rows, you will have 108 million bytes just in PK's in your index. If you have a table that links 100 records to each of those 1 million rows, you will have over 1GB just of foreign keys.22:41
*** ddieterly[away] is now known as ddieterly22:42

SpamapSjeblair: yeah, it made massive boosts in query speed to do bigint autoinc keys in subunit2sql. This sounds like similar scale.22:42
SpamapSclarkb: yeah, this is the shortcut 3 byte utf822:42
SpamapSif you use mb4 you get 25% more bytes FOR FREE22:42
jeblairSpamapS: yes, and nearly identical data / problem space :)22:42
SpamapSand let's not even get started about actual proper utf-8 that does 6 byte wide chars22:43

*** matt-borland has joined #openstack-infra22:44
SpamapSbecause, subunit2sql is specifically a datamart, so query optimized schema is important. If zuul is just recording this for single key lookups.. it could be premature optimization to fight it too hard.22:44

clarkbtherve: are you around? I am trying to debug a failing zaqar test on ubuntu xenial and wondering if it is familiar to you23:38
clarkbmordred: ya so my hostname is 'ubuntu' but because no config drive it neversets that in /etc/hosts which makes socket.gethostbyname(socket.gethostname)) fails23:39
mordredclarkb: also, if you don't have config-drive, then there is no point in having glean in an image. it's purpose in life is to take information from config-drive and use it to set things up on the host23:39
clarkbmordred: and that seemed to be tripped by wsgi in pbr and pifpaf23:39

notmorganbecause i'd be happy to dig in further, but i just can't duplicate it locally (i've tried 5 different ways of installing it all now)23:42

mordredalso - if someone is booting a vm to runa test in, are they going to _have_ a hostname they want the vm to have?23:50
clarkbianw: ya I used it with an ubuntu published image to bootstrap my local virt stuff. I built an image with it then shifted to my built images23:51
mordredI mean, it seems like the sort of thing where we're going to say "you need to make a config-drive to contain the hostname" and the user is going to say "what hostname"23:51

clarkbI know that I like to have proper hostnames because then my dhcp server does magical things23:51
