spotzfungi - do you know anything about network1-servoces.svg from the install-guide?21:30
fungispotz: no clue what you're talking about. i guess it's a file in the repo?21:33
fungiseems it's this? https://opendev.org/openstack/openstack-manuals/src/branch/master/doc/install-guide/source/figures/network1-services.svg21:34
fungispotz: what specifically do you want to know?21:35
spotzfungi: Yeah soo if you go here https://docs.openstack.org/install-guide/overview.html21:35
spotzIt looks like there's issues with the png which I'm assuming is from the svg. When I try to fix the issues th little yellow boxes aren't there21:35
spotzI'm afraid to play too much:( But atleast I'm only breaking my local copy21:36
fungiso this https://docs.openstack.org/install-guide/_images/network1-services.png21:36
fungithese days it might make more sense to embed the svg than a png conversion21:37
spotzYeah so notice the space in Provider and the squish in both storqage?21:38
spotzWell the svg has stuff broken into spans which is at least why the png is funky21:38
fungiyeah, looks like someone created it in inkscape. are you trying to use inkscape to edit it, or hand-editing the xml text?21:40
spotzfungi: I edited it in Atom and then was looking at it in inkspace which is where I was going to export the png21:42
fungiahh21:43
funginever heard of atom, is that an image editor?21:44
fungioh, i guess it's this text editor? https://atom.io/21:45
fungianyway, yeah, i mostly meant were you directly editing the xml. inkscape doesn't produce especially human-friendly xml21:46
fungia few times i've manually cleaned up the xml written by inkscape to get it directly maintainable, but i've only bothered with small thinks like logos and icons21:47
fungispotz: one handy trick i've used when hand-editing the xml for an svg is to rely on native broswer svg rendering support, point firefox at a file:/// url to where i'm editing, and then just refresh the browser tab whenever i save my in-progress editsd to the file to see how it's coming along21:50
spotzfungi I usually have good luck with the 2 but not this time and my skill level not up to the task on this21:50

spotzfungi: I'll give that a try. Can we serve the svg or does it need the png?22:01
fungiwe should be able to serve the svg just fine. i think the reason we didn't traditionally was that 10 years ago not a lot of popular browser versions had svg rendering support built in22:02
fungithese days i suspect most do? but really i'm no web designer, might want to check that assertion22:03
spotzfungi: Maybe Jimmy would know?22:58
fungior do a web search: https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/test-svg-format-browser-engines/ https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8926285/svg-browser-support https://www.w3.org/2010/09/svg_browser.php23:02
fungithose are the first three hits for me on duckduckgo for "browser support for svg" and seem to all conclude that modern popular browsers are pretty much all fine with embedded svg23:02
