Shark_Tooth_0Is anyone free to help me out. I'm trying to get started with openstack. I tried packstack all in one installer and it wouldn't work. I now have devstack installed and was able to create an instance, however it is stuck saying "powering on." I'm just looking for a simple way to get started with openstack and the basics don't seem to work.17:02
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: you would need to check the logs for that17:03
yoctozeptoopenstack is a complex beast but it can be tamed :-)17:03
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: look into nova compute docs17:03
yoctozeptoin devstack those are in n-cpu17:03
Shark_Tooth_0could you help me find the logs and the keystone file? When I had packstack installed it created a keystone_rc file I could source to use the CLI and the logs were kept under /var/log/blah (cinder, etc)17:05
Shark_Tooth_0I don't see that in the devstack all-in-one installer17:05
Shark_Tooth_0basically I'd just like to find a tutorial that walks you through installing openstack and spinning up a simple instance17:07
Shark_Tooth_0running through the official documents step by step and I always get to a point where it just stops working17:07
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: do you want to deploy for development or evaluation?17:10
Shark_Tooth_0initially I'd just like to get it up and running so I know how to install it and get a simple instance running that I can SSH into17:12
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: for evaluation you might have better luck with Kolla Ansible: https://docs.openstack.org/kolla-ansible/ussuri/user/quickstart.html17:12
Shark_Tooth_0are there any working tutorials for basic bare metal installers without docker?17:14
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: most production-ready deployment tools use some containerization (kolla-docker, tripleo-podman, osa-lxc)17:17
yoctozeptoShark_Tooth_0: your best bet might be devstack still17:17
Shark_Tooth_0yeah I'll keep digging into devstack, I was able to get it up and running and create an instance but when going to power it on I just get "Error: Unable to start instance: test" guess I'll just dig through journalctl to see if there's anything...some day I'll be able to set this up as fast as I can ESXi haha17:20
yoctozeptowell, ESXi is much much less complex, and caters for bit different needs17:21
Shark_Tooth_0Taking a look at microstack and charmed openstack for Ubuntu.17:33
Shark_Tooth_0rofl it failed on the first step hahahah17:45
Shark_Tooth_0having terrible luck with openstack17:45
Shark_Tooth_0evidently it's a known error for microsnap though somebody reported the same error 6 days ago17:45
Shark_Tooth_0or microstack snap I mean17:46
