jayahnㅐ/13:33
jayahno/13:33
spotzSo far we've had 0 candidates nominate themsevles13:33
spotzWoot full house:)13:33
spotzI've spoken to a few people and suggested they run. If you know of anyone you think would bee good I would suggest doing the samee13:34
studarusI had one person contact me13:35
studarusbut not sure if he is serious13:35
spotzI've emailed out the one reminder, I'll tweet another one today. studarus weere you still running? Maybe seeeing your nomination on the lists might help13:36
studaruswe need three, right?13:36
jayahni will also promote uc election through my social.13:37
*** jamesmcarthur has quit IRC13:38
spotzYes, if we only end up with 1 at lleast wee would keep an odd numbere on the committee13:38
spotzOk if everyone can share the link to the nominations email - http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/user-committee/2020-February/002898.html I'd appreciate it13:43
spotzAnything elsee on this topic?13:43
studarusnothing else from me13:44
spotz#topic Ambassador Update13:45
*** openstack changes topic to "Ambassador Update (Meeting topic: UC)"13:45
spotzmelsakhawy you have any updatees?13:45
melsakhawyYeah , I think we'r ready to submit for review by the foundation13:45
melsakhawyI elaborated a bit on the advocacy part, but can't specify activitites13:46
melsakhawyso prefer to leave it "assist with brand strengthening activities organized by the foundation"13:46
spotzstudarus: Do you have any input as you've served as one?13:46
spotzYou too jayahn?13:47
studarusI put my thoughts into the document13:47
studarusit'll be interesting to see what the foundation staff has to say13:47
studaruslast we spoke with them, they had different views of the ambassador role13:47
studarusso I hope we can convince them of a change13:47
melsakhawyyeah , I still have to do some document cleaning, But I can probably send it over sometime next week13:48
jayahnI will try to put my thought into it13:48
spotzWell someething the neext UC class could do is if they like the concept but not the name maybee make it something new13:49
studarusyeah - that's an idea13:50
studaruseither way we need foundation support to make it happen13:50
spotzSp let's say if you have any comments put them on the document by Monday so melsakhawy can. submit later next week?13:50
studarusto get them listed on the website, get them some sort of benefits13:50
melsakhawysure sounds good , and I agree on that studarus13:51
spotzThe election starts next Monday so I'll leave it up to you melsakhawy if you want to wait for any fresh comments after neext weeks meeting to submit13:51
spotzAAmbassadors used to be on the website, did they get dropped off in an update?13:51
studarusI was talking about setting up a new group13:52
melsakhawyI'll submit next week, I'dd rather submit now to get going , there may be iterations on it anyway so we'll get new member's input as well13:52
spotzOk sounds good13:52
spotzOk studarus makees sense13:52
spotzAnything else on this?13:52
melsakhawynope, I'm good13:53
spotz#topic Vancouver13:53
*** openstack changes topic to "Vancouver (Meeting topic: UC)"13:53
studaruslooks like the Ambassador page has been removed from the website13:55
studarusVancouver is strange - is there no North America summit this year?13:55
spotzSo I aasked last weeek and melsakhawy wasn't going or wasn't sure and belmoreira stated he wasn't rerunning. So I wanted to bee sure there would bee some repreentation before putting in for a UC time slot.13:55
studarushas it been replaced with just the PTG and OpenDev?13:55
jayahnthat is my question. no summit for vancouver?13:55
spotzThere's is just this one in the US, it's supposed to have vendors and such but it's not a fullblown Summit. That will be Berlin in October13:56
studarusso that means no CFP for Vancouver?13:56
spotzActually there will be as Ashleee mailed out looking for Track Chairs and modeeerators13:57
studarusdo we expect users or just developers since it will be a PTG?13:57
spotzIt's beeing targeted for both. I'll grab the mail real quiick to confirm but forum type event in the morning with PTG in the afternoon. Each day I think with a keeynote but let me confirm all that real quick13:58
studarusI did outreach to the projects that I've supported with workshops in past years and none plan to conduct workshops in Vancouver. Kayobe, StarlingX.13:59
spotzOpenDev + PTG is a new collaborative event organized by the OpenStack Foundation gathering developers, system architects, and operators to address common open source infrastructure challenges.13:59
spotzOpenDev will include discussion oriented sessions around a particular topic to explore a problem within a topic area, share common architectures, and collaborate around potential solutions. This OpenDev will focus specifically on the following Tracks, spanning open source projects, including Airship, Ansible, Ceph, Kata Containers, Kubernetes, OpenStack, StarlingX, and Zuul:13:59
spotzHardware Automation13:59
spotzLarge-scale Usage of Open Source Infrastructure Software13:59
spotzContainers in Production13:59
spotzKey Challenges for Open Source in 202013:59
studarusif there won't be workshops, I won't have funding to attend13:59
spotzI'm not specifically seeing workshops listed. Maybee check with Ashleee?14:00
jayahnit will be difficult to get funding from the company, if there is no presentation to do, workshop to lead, ...14:00
spotzI will point out there will bee TSP available but understand14:03
jayahnI can use Airship PTG as a reason for attending, however, I will know if I can go in May.14:04
studarusso maybe we skip Yancouver and hope for Berlin?14:04
spotzYeah it's just not clear on the workshops and such14:04
studarusare we supposed to present at the board meeting?14:05
spotzWe are planning on a Joint Leadership meeting on Sunday yes. Feedback in the last board meeting was that they were positive and helpful.14:06
studarusso maybe we dialin?14:07
spotzMainly myseelf and Julia who wasa TC thought they were good14:07
spotzstudarus: Dialin or if needed I don't mind filling in for the current UC as needed. Provided I don't end up with a ton on my plate, which I'm not expecting14:08
spotzI'll probably put in for 1 diversity WG session and I offered to moderate14:11
spotz15 minutes left, I'd say we need to find out about workshops from OSF and then can figure out next week. But I can stand in if needed for a session14:14
studarusok!14:14
spotzAnything else on this?14:14
spotz#topic Merger Update14:15
*** openstack changes topic to "Merger Update (Meeting topic: UC)"14:15
spotzI emaileed out a link to the TC meeting where ttx was giving an update. It seens the goveernance changes need to mergee the 2 groups are goingg to bee quite lengthy14:15
spotzAnd I really neeed my keyboard fixed:(14:16
spotzDid anyone get a chance to read it?14:17
jayahnnot yet, I will find it14:18
spotzI'm not sure which way things are going to go, but I don't think anything will happen for 6-12 months the eaarliest14:19
spotzWithout aanyonee reading the maiil yet we should move to new business aand we can add this for the aagendaa for next week14:22
jayahnokay14:24
spotz#topic Open Discussion14:24
*** openstack changes topic to "Open Discussion (Meeting topic: UC)"14:24
spotzAnyone have anything?14:25
studarusjust that the Ambassador page is gone14:25
studarusI sent out an email about how the CNCF is running local events14:25
spotzOk that's a jimmy question14:25
studarusthey have a GitHub page where you add your event to get approved14:25
studaruswe never had a good process to get local days approved14:26
studarusso it might make sense to copy14:26
jayahndoes local days needs to be approved? in what criteria?14:26
studarusor do something via Git14:26
studarusyes, it has to go to the foundation for their blessing14:26
studarusotherwise you can't use the name14:26
studarusthey like to see funding and organizer support listed14:27
studarusthe requirements were never officially stated and varied from event to event14:27
studarusand the foundation would provide some funding if specific criteria was met14:28
jayahnthere has been some requirements from the foundation since they branded "openstack days" in .. several years ago.14:28
studarusyeah - it would be nice to have an open process for people to find other people interested in running events14:29
studarusthe CNCF process is good at bringing together interested organizers in a city that may not know each other14:29
spotzYeah I'm not sure if we'ree openinfra or opendev14:29
jayahnthen, from last year, some of local "days" changed its name slightly so that it can involve other technologies such as containers, kubernetes, etc.14:29
studarusOpenDev is the new name for the projects around Zuul14:30
jayahni will look at CNCF process. however, personally, i don't like how LF deals with local user groups. OpenStack Foundation is better since it gives some freedome (flexibility) to local user group. LF is really tight on their policy.14:30
studarusCNCF is giving $$$ in swag to meetup groups - it is real nice14:31
studaruswe spoke about doing that through an OpenStack swag store but I don't think it got off the ground14:31
studarusit would be nice to support the local user groups with swag14:31
studarustime is up?14:33
jayahnmy opinion might be a bit biased since Korea has a well-established local user groups that can do things on its own. :) Flexibility was "a really needed point" for us to run local days combining openstack, kubernetes, ceph, and even ocp together. Since most of participants are same people.14:33
jayahnyeap. :)14:33
jayahntime is up14:33
