JayFHave a question: I submitted my candidacy for Ironic PTL, but I'm afraid I'm on the border of what would be considered eligible. My primary contributions this cycle have been backporting stable patches and performing code reviews. I don't believe I have a single originated-by-jay commit in a repo this cycle at all.21:46
JayFDoes this mean I'm ineligible unless such a contribution is made?21:46
JayFactually, I think https://opendev.org/openstack/diskimage-builder/commit/fe0e5324d4248d114660ec35111ae9601e05b95b will likely count21:50
JayFDid more digging on my own, and I learned that DIB is not a part of any official project (at least as linked from the electorate page), but I would suspect https://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/2b8c1cffe409af1e1da6597ea0b7b96931a035f7 should be sufficient22:03
JayFThe wording is extremely confusing for someone like me who mostly does contribution via backports, reviews, and ushering other patches through. 22:03
fungiJayF: it's based on the "owner" field in gerrit, so basically the committer/uploader of the change22:24
funginot the author in the commit22:24
fungiso if you pushed a first revision of a change to gerrit for one of those repositories, even if it was a backport targeting a stable branch, it should count as a qualifying contribution (as long as it merged in the qualifying timeframe)22:25
JayFIn that case, I'm extremely clear. 22:25
JayFThat nova patch is a prime example, there are a handful in Ironic/IPA as well22:26
fungifor ironic ptl, it will need to be an ironic deliverable yes22:26
fungidib belongs to the tact sig i think? so would still qualify someone to vote in tc elections (and any foundation individual member can run for tc even if they're not owner of a merged change)22:27
JayFhttps://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/ironic/+/855704 should have me clear, in any event22:28
JayFthat should land shortly22:28
fungiand yeah, dib is indeed under the tact sig. you'd think being the sig chair i'd have known that, but it's friday before a holiday weekend: https://opendev.org/openstack/governance/src/branch/master/reference/sigs-repos.yaml#L5922:29
JayFWhat is the sig:project relationship? Is it like, a lesser status?22:29
JayFI was stunned to find DIB wasn't in a top level official project22:30
JayFwhen it's basically required for some amount of Ironic-Python-Agent CI22:30
fungisig's aren't lesser (he says, as a totally unbiased party)22:30
fungihttps://governance.openstack.org/sigs/22:31
JayFI guess it makes sense the wording; I was thinking it said "you can vote in elections if you committed to a top level project" 22:31
JayFwhen it really meant "you can vote in elections /for a top level project you have committed to/"22:31
fungiyou can vote in a ptl election if you've contributed to the team for that ptl22:31
JayF(it was probably written right; I'm a bit sick right now so eye->brain highway is moving slow lol)22:31
fungiyou can vote in tc elections if you've contributed to any team or sig22:31
JayFThanks for the education :) 22:33
JayFI was joking in my internal chat that I feel like I need an openstack law degree to understand some of this.22:33
JayFI think that makes you John Jay, or something like that :P22:33
* JayF should add diskimage-builder to his normal review rotation22:37
fungiJayF: but yes, the reason dib is under the openstack tact sig and didn't move to be part of the opendev collaboratory tools instead is because of ironic relying heavily on it22:41
JayFI don't care where something lives, really, as long as the folks maintaining it are friendly and take contributions.22:42
JayFJust don't want something to be under the OpenStack umbrella but not treated as valuable if it is :) (and it sounds like the sig does treat it that way :D)22:42
fungiyeah, the tact sig is essentially the shell of the old infra team after its guts moved out to become a separate entity22:43
JayFwell sounds like a doubly good reason to add DIB to my review rotation22:43
JayFsince I know infra folks are usually by definition overworked lol22:44
fungii'm sure the other folks reviewing dib will be happy to have the assistance. i don't often look at it (and i don't think i even have core reviewer rights on it, despite being the sig chair)22:44
