fungimnaser: spotz: i see you're mistral's tc liaisons... i'm trying to get up with their security liaison and not having much luck (either via launchpad, or the e-mail address listed in governance, or asking around in the team's irc channel)... do you know if the project is still maintained?14:46
gmannfungi: yes, it is slow progress. many of freenode migration patches are not merged even I added many core there14:51
funginoted14:52
spotzfungi I believe it is. Let me see what I can find14:56

gmannmnaser, yoctozepto, and jungleboyj to work on cinder bug with cinder team.15:07
gmannany update on the cinder bug15:07
mnaseri had some discussions .. yesterday or before yesterday? this week is all a blur :)15:07
jungleboyjgmann:  I followed up with Cinder and thanks to mnaser for debug help.15:07
mnaserwe've identified one failure caused by a segfault that has an open patch15:07
mnasernot sure if that merged or not15:07
jungleboyjI need to double check.15:07
mnaser#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/cinder/+/77212615:07
jungleboyjmnaser:  Ah good.  Will work to get that merged today.15:08
gmannnice15:08
mnaserso this is ONE failure case where lvdisplay was segfaulting ... so, once that merges, if we see more further failures, id be happy to debug them15:08
jungleboyjWe also had barbican issues causing failures which are now fixed.15:08
mnaseri dont know if this is going to close all of the issues, but, it's one class of them15:08
mnaserthanks to dansmith for sharing a failure with me,15:08
jungleboyjI think that there will be more sefaults that we need to handle.15:09
mnaserplease feel free to share cinder fails with me and im happy to debug, turns out being an operator for a hot minute means you can comb through these failures quickly (:15:09
jungleboyjWe have gotten agreement from the Cinder team to not blindly recheck but to start keeping track of failures.15:09
jungleboyjmnaser:  Yeah, I was impressed with the response time. :-)15:09
gmannthat is good direction 15:09
mnaser jungleboyj please cc me on any failures and ill gladly dig into them15:09
jungleboyjmnaser: Awesome.  Thank you!15:09
fungiour ci resources thank them for not just blindly rechecking changes without looking into failures too ;)15:10
jungleboyjSo, I think we made good progress there this week.15:10
mnasergmann: in summary, we're moving in a positive direction15:10
dansmithexcellent news15:10
gmanngreat, thanks a lot mnaser jungleboyj dansmith for getting things done15:10

dansmithI dropped all my openstack joins15:14

spotzI'm still thterer I thihnk15:14

gmannthis is merged now so we are good on this15:17
gmannI will remove this from next meeting agenda15:17
gmann#topic Governance nono-active repos retirement & cleanup15:18
gmann#link https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/governance-repos-cleanup15:18
gmannI started this ^^ etherpad to cleanup the non-active repos under governance 15:18
gmannI added some data also like last relevant commit15:19
gmannany objection on any of the repo to start the retirement ?15:19
spotzI'm good15:19
yoctozepto++15:20
gmannopenstack/scientific-wg one is to talk to Scientific SIG first and then take decision, I will reach out to them 15:20
gmannok, I will start cleaning those15:21
gmannbefore I move to Open Review15:21
spotzI haven't seen any Scientific SiH meeting reminderrs in a while but think they're still about15:21
gmannyeah, I will email to chair15:22
belmoreirathey are still going15:22
gmannY release naming: we have one TC member yet to vote on Y release name15:22
gmanntoday is last day to vote15:22
yoctozeptothe scientific-wg repo does not look relevant too much anyway15:22
yoctozeptothey might be good to retire it as well15:22
yoctozeptobut yeah, needs asking15:23
gmannyoctozepto: yeah in case you want to continue or so15:23
yoctozeptogmann: and you won't tell us who that late member is?15:23
yoctozeptoI hope you remembered to vote :-)15:23
gmannI do not know until I end the vote15:23
gmannCIVS just show the number of voter vs authorized voters15:23
yoctozeptooh, tricky15:23
jungleboyjI voted this morning.  Have you checked in the last hour or so?15:23
spotzVote vote!!!!15:24
gmannyes, just now i refreshed 15:24
* yoctozepto remembers morning was 9 hours ago15:24
jungleboyj:-)15:24
jungleboyjMy morning.15:24
* jungleboyj is still in morning.15:24
yoctozeptoobviously15:24
yoctozeptoit is either timezone or a good party :-)15:24
yoctozepto(or both)15:25
jungleboyjBwah hah ha15:25
belmoreiraI liked what jungleboyj did with the poll15:25
jungleboyjThanks.  I didn't expect the response I got and unfortunately found out that Survey Monkey holds your info hostage after 40 respondents.15:25
gmannyeah, I still like to have community to vote instead of just TC but jungleboyj way is good to get vote from community 15:25
spotz<e too, wish I'd thougght of it but I'dd just voted when he posted!15:26
belmoreirait shows that people are willing to participate 15:26
gmannyes15:26
jungleboyjgmann:  Yeah, wanted to get the community input too and let everyone feel like they could help.  Honestly, I couldn't choose and needed help.15:26
spotzDo we maybe want to open voting back up?15:26
yoctozeptojungleboyj: what won from the community?15:26
gmannI am in favor of that15:26
spotzyoda:)15:26
jungleboyjspotz:  I would say yes, but it got so contentious.15:27
* spotz rerad the tweet:)15:27
gmannok, Iw ill add topic in next meeting for voting rights to communtiy again15:27
jungleboyjhttps://twitter.com/jungleboyj/status/140550393747051315415:27
spotzSweet, I like the idea I wasn't sure why it changed15:27
jungleboyjSo, likely it will be Yak? 15:27
belmoreiraI think this is one of the things that all the community should be involved. I don't remember why it changed15:28
fungithe problem with opening voting up "to the community" is you'll need to settle on a mechanism for doing that (deciding who gets to vote, how to let people know to vote, et cetera) whereas holding a poll for a known set of contacts is relatively trivial15:28
spotzI honestly don't know if yoda will pass legal but think of the poossibilities. We can have Baby Yoda as rc1:)15:28
yoctozeptolol15:28
belmoreirafungi true15:28
gmannwe can find some mechanish on that, let's discuss next15:29
jungleboyjspotz:  Yeah, depending on what the final vote is we are likely to have Legalissues.15:29
gmannnext week15:29
gmannfor this release, can everyone check if they have voted or not. 15:29
spotzI did15:29
jungleboyjI did.15:29
fungibut also, in the end, it's the tc and foundation legal who have to agree on a choice, so it gets contentious when the community favorite winds up getting overridden by tc dictate15:29
mnaseri just did15:29
yoctozeptooh, so we have all votes cast15:30
mnaser(but honestly didn't pick a name because i still don't think i get to name releases)15:30
gmannfungi: yeah, we need to change that thingsso that we can avoid ussuri likle situation 15:30
yoctozeptoSHOW US THE RESULTS15:30
yoctozepto:D15:30
jungleboyjfungi:  Ah, that is right.  I knew the community was upset by something in the process.  It was the fact we had to override.15:30
gmannmnaser: ditto, same here15:30
gmanndansmith: diablo_rojo ?15:30
mnaserso everything is ranked 18 for me15:30
jungleboyjOMG, so we don't even have everyone voting.15:30
gmannricolin: ?15:31
diablo_rojoI voted. 15:31
jungleboyjI guess we do need to change the process given that I went to a community vote.15:31
dansmithgmann: what are you asking me? I voted.15:31
gmannjungleboyj: yeah, I am in favor of that since starting 15:31
gmanndansmith: ok15:31
gmannI think ricolin left then ?15:32
belmoreiraalso voted15:32
gmannI will check with him15:32
ricolinsorry catching up, double meeting_15:32
yoctozeptoricolin: vote for Y name :-)15:32
ricolinoh!15:32
ricolinvoted!15:32
ricolin:)15:32
yoctozeptooh15:32
gmanngreat, its  vote now15:32
yoctozeptothen gmann needs to refresh15:32
gmannlet me end and see result15:33
* yoctozepto can't wait15:33
gmannhttps://civs1.civs.us/cgi-bin/results.pl?id=E_f065453ffd2537cb15:33
* jungleboyj does a drumroll, Christmas Vacation Style.15:33
yoctozeptooh noez15:33
gmannI also voted 18 for all with same reason mnaser mentioned 15:33
dansmithugh, so it's going to be york?15:33
mnaserwell15:34
mnaserwe need legal vetting first15:34
mnaserso id wait before we go screaming to the twittarz :)15:34
dansmithright I assume yoda and yeti will be ruled out15:34
jungleboyjAssuming that Yoda and Yeti lose upon legal vetting.15:34
gmannas next step i will check the legal things with foundation 15:34
yoctozeptoso it's Yak then15:34
jungleboyjAnd it is a tie between York and Yak.15:34
jungleboyjYak was rated higher in my community vote so I would support that.15:34
diablo_rojoYeah definitely let legal go first. 15:35
jungleboyj:-)15:35
ricolinwill see15:35
diablo_rojoI had already voted before jungleboyj started his poll or I would have done 18 for all of them too. 15:35
spotzYeti should pass legal15:35
ricolinI still give my high hope on Yoda:)15:35
gmannyeah, this is one part of process and we will get the final name after legal checks15:35
diablo_rojoAs it was I did 18 for 15 of them and 1 for three pronounceable names. 15:35
jungleboyjOh, I am sorry, York isn't tied with Yak15:35
* jungleboyj is glad that 'you' didn't win. 15:35
yoctozepto^ that ^15:36
yoctozepto:D15:36
gmannone more thing which is not in agend but good to discuss "election official onboarding meeting  by diablo_rojo " 15:36
jungleboyjspotz:  Yeti ... The coolers.15:36
fungii suppose if it winds up being york, we know where to have the next ptg15:36
dansmithYou should have been disqualified,15:36
ricolin`you cycle` sounds strange :)15:36
yoctozeptoyeah, it's not a noun15:36
yoctozeptoit's a pronoun15:36
gmanndiablo_rojo: go ahead15:36
dansmithbecause it would be impossible to distinguish between people saying U release and You release15:36
jungleboyjOpenStack is all of us.15:37
fungiit's the y'all release down here15:37
jungleboyjLOL15:37
spotzjungleboyj: Yeah but Rocky the movie, I think therer's enough other uses of the word 15:37
yoctozeptodansmith: we should call it "Why" as in "Why did you call it <<you>>?"15:37
diablo_rojoOh yeah well I setup a meeting15:37
* dansmith scowls15:37
diablo_rojofor the... 15:38
jungleboyjspotz:  Well, we will see what happens with Legal.15:38
gmannohk moving to   "election official onboarding meeting  by diablo_rojo " 15:38
gmann10:36 AM <jungleboyj> Jay Bryant 15:38
diablo_rojo29th15:38
gmannjungleboyj: sorry, it was copy paste :)15:38
diablo_rojoYes. 15:38
spotzjungleboyj: I'm just saying it's a possible. Yoda I don't think will pass:(15:38
gmann#link http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-discuss/2021-June/023060.html15:38
diablo_rojoSo, for those interested in being election officials. 15:38
diablo_rojoPlease join!15:38
gmannwho all volutneer to help for next election ?15:38
jungleboyjCool.15:39
diablo_rojoI will have to teach people and then hang around in an advisory capacity becuase I think I am up for reelection. 15:39
gmanndiablo_rojo: I think you would not be able to be election official if you are running for TC. 15:39
gmannok15:39
diablo_rojogmann, yep, that is correct. 15:39
spotzI said I'd help 15:39
gmannwe need two member at least right? or one is enough 15:39
fungior for ptl15:39
diablo_rojospotz, does that meeting work for you?15:39
diablo_rojowe can run a combined election again15:40
fungimore generally, if you're running for an office you can't officiate the election you're also running for, as it would be a conflict of interest15:40
jungleboyjI offered to help if you guys need me.15:40
gmann+1 for combined election 15:40
diablo_rojoWhat fungi said :) 15:40
diablo_rojojungleboyj, aren't you going to be up for reelection with me?15:40
fungis/can't/shouldn't/ really15:40
jungleboyjdiablo_rojo:  Yes, but I am not planning on running again at this point in time.15:41
spotzdiablo_rojo: yeah it looks doable. I'll get it on my work calendarr. Won't say I won't be on the pony:)15:41
gmannI will add this to next meeting agenda also to have next election official or we get someone from community  15:41
diablo_rojojungleboyj, oh cool then yes please help15:41
jungleboyj:-)  15:41
diablo_rojogmann, sounds good15:41
diablo_rojojungleboyj, spotz I attached the ical to the email so you should be able to block your calendars with it15:42
gmann#action gmann to add election official assignments in next week meeting agenda 15:42
jungleboyjYep.  It is on my calendar.  I will attend the meeting.  If there are enough people interested in helping I will leave my options open.15:42
* jungleboyj is all about going with the flow lately.15:42
spotzhehe15:43
gmannjungleboyj: spotz thanks 15:43

diablo_rojoYou are all welcome to join to learn about the process even if you don't help this time15:43
gmannpanko retirement has enough vote but I added OpenStack Puppet PTL to ack this. 15:44
gmanndiablo_rojo: ++15:44
diablo_rojoLearning this time doesn't mean you HAVE to do it for the next election15:44
jungleboyjdiablo_rojo:  My thought exectly.15:44
yoctozeptogmann: I'd say puppet has nothing to deploy if panko is retired15:45
gmannyoctozepto: yes, but as pocess we need PTL +1 for repo retirement from their project15:45
yoctozeptogmann: should mrunge repropose to retire only telemetry's part then and don't worry about puppet-panko?15:46
gmannyoctozepto: puppet-panko content is also removed so we can do it together or in separate patch which agfain need PTL +115:47
gmannso I am fine with waiting on this patch itself15:47
yoctozeptoack15:47
gmannI added them in Reviewer but they have not yet voted. I will ping on IRC also if available 15:48
gmannthat's all form me for today meeitng15:48

zanebjust a reminder that the thinking behind having the TC vote on names was that y'all could filter out the ones that will obviously just cost the OSF a bunch of money to reject at legal review (like "Yoda"), names that seem funny but clearly make everyone's life a little bit worse (like "You"), and names that could cause an international incident and get us all banned from summit (like <redacted>)21:09
fungiyeah, after the debacle with meiji, the tc was a bit gun-shy about the possibility of people voting for uyghur or urumqi on the tenth anniversary of the... event21:30
gmannthat should be solved by having some pre-trademark check or so which does not invovle cost instead of limiting the voter and expecting those voter to collectivly decide on filtering the names21:42
fungisure, the problem was twofold: 1. the standing policy documented by the tc at the time was that all submissions could be voted on by the community, but also 2. "the community" was not well-defined and trying to support that voting model while guarding against brigading and similar abuses was nontrivial22:06
