yoctozeptolol, freenode seems to have removed my nick and dropped the openstack channels I was in05:52

opendevreviewMatthias Runge proposed openstack/governance master: Panko is deprecated now  https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/governance/+/79640809:03
fungiyoctozepto: i wonder what the deciding factor was... i'm still in 4 #openstack- channels on freenode (election, infra, security and tc) and haven't seen the channel topics change yet12:09
fungii'm also still in opendev, openinfra and zuul channels there which haven't been hit yet12:10
yoctozeptofungi: then for sure they did not target the openstack namespace, just individual accounts12:10
yoctozeptodid they remove your nick?12:11
funginot that i noticed12:11
yoctozeptoperhaps they were only after me12:11
fungithough my current server connection has started timing out 15 minutes ago, so maybe it just happened?12:11
yoctozeptoprobably12:12
yoctozeptoperhaps they implemented a manual process12:12
fungiwell, my connection lag counter finally reset, so maybe it's just a ddos against their servers or something12:30
TheJuliaRandom drive-by question of the morning. Have we considered trying to remind projects to update the OpenStack wiki page on wikipedia?13:05
*** diablo_rojo__ is now known as diablo_rojo13:13
fungii wonder how many folks in various projects are wikipedia editors, i'm guessing not many13:13
yoctozeptoI'm not14:00
fungithere's a rather involved application process to become one. not just anyone is allowed to edit articles on wikipedia14:02
toskytechnically anyone involved with a certain activity/project shouldn't edit the corresponding pages in wikipedia14:03
toskyuhm, or maybe just in the Italian one? I don't find the policy I had in mind14:04
toskyah, this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest14:05
yoctozeptoyeah, it's in the bigger wikipedias14:08
yoctozeptoit makes sense14:08
yoctozeptowe should be described as the public sees us14:09
yoctozeptoanyhow, switching topic14:10
yoctozeptojungleboyj, mnaser: has there been any communication with the cinder team regarding the gate?14:10
* yoctozepto wonder if he's not missing out14:10

fungiokay, looks like they did indeed delete the channel registrations on freenode, now that my connection to their servers has recovered15:52
fungithough whois there does still report me as "logged in" so it doesn't seem like my nick registration was obliterated15:53
fungialso our channel topics are still intact, at least on the channels i'm lurking15:53
melwittI learned from reading the twitters that they moved to a new fork https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27510192 but the old servers are still running as well. the registrations were not migrated to the new servers, so it depends on which you connect to wrt whether you see your registration or not15:55
mugsiefungi: yeah, i ended up on the new side of the fork, and it is all gone - registrations / channels / topics etc15:56
fungiinteresting15:56
fungii still see channel topics and am still logged in, but chanserv reports that the channels aren't registered15:56
fungialso it looks like i'm the only one in those channels, so yeah maybe there's a netsplit15:57
gmannI was logged off and now not able to connect 15:59
fungiwere you using irccloud? they apparently got blocked permanently15:59
gmannircloud was blocked before and then i joined via web client16:00
gmannseems their web client is down? https://webchat.freenode.net/16:01
mnaserforgive me language16:02
mnaserbut it's a shitshow :)16:02
mugsieyeah - sad to see it, it just adds fuel to the anti IRC fire :/16:03
gmannanyways we are all good I think, I will remind PTL/projects to update their doc/wiki on priority as I can see ~20 project are not done yet16:03
*** ricolin_ is now known as ricolin16:26
* yoctozepto is just glad we migrated before it got this wrong16:34
* fungi wishes we'd done it when it was first officially proposed in 201416:35
* mnaser likes what they're seeing with Zuul moving to Matrix and hopes we do the same17:15
fungithe opendev sysadmins will be discussing a spec about making our bots available on matrix natively later today (meeting is 1.5 hours from now in #opendev-meeting)17:30

fungieven debian needed to issue a statement about discouraging use of unofficial debian channels on freenode: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2021/06/msg00002.html17:39
fungia bit surprising given they haven't officially used it since ~200617:40
yoctozeptothe situation is wrong enough that anything can happen17:44
fungiyep, apparently there was still an unofficial outpost for the community on freenode17:49
toskywould it make sense to start closing devstack-gate tasks here? https://storyboard.openstack.org/#!/project/71218:02
fungisure, just mark them all invalid if you have time18:08
fungii doubt any are strictly required to be fixed for stable branch support, since we assume stable branches are working to the extent we'll continue to support18:09
yoctozeptoagreed18:55
gmannyeah we can close those and fix stable branch only when broken19:25
jungleboyjyoctozepto:  No, I have still been working on getting caught up from vacation.  Came back to find co-workers moving on and it has been a shitshow.19:49
jungleboyjtosky:  Are you aware of anything being done to improve Cinder's gate performance?19:49
toskyjungleboyj: I know several fixes have been applied at least in master a few weeks ago to reduce the failures19:50
toskyjungleboyj: do you have up-to-date data about cinder gate performance? I remember some discussions here but last time I've checked (one month ago?) the global data about gates usage were a bit outdated19:50
jungleboyjChecking the meeting notes from last week.19:51
toskyit would be better to have some specific pointers19:52
toskyI know the gates are blocked right now due to the sqlalchemy issues in barbican19:52
toskyand it took a while to fix the sqlalchemy errors in cinder itself19:53
toskybut I think it would be better to discuss about some data19:53
jungleboyjAfter reading through the meeting logs the concern is they feel the issue still isn't getting traction with the team.  No specific pointers other than dansmith  continuing to see a lot of Cinder failures.19:54
jungleboyjStarting a discussion with rosmaita over in the Cinder channel.19:54
toskyagain, if it's the thing raised a few months ago, I believe the failures have been addressed19:55
toskyif it's something new, it depends on what it is19:55
gmannits same issue occurring for many months, sometime more frequently19:56
toskyI'm sure those issues discussed months ago have been fixed19:59
toskythere have been more sporadic failures19:59
toskyand for at least one week the job which also deploys barbican is blocked on barbican/sqlalchemy issues19:59
gmanncleaned up the devstack-gate tasks20:12
fungithanks!20:15
gmannfungi: ttx who is the right person to contact to change IRC network name in two places in openstack site (https://www.openstack.org/blog/  https://www.openstack.org/community/)20:54
fungigmann: jimmy was talking about fixing that on the community page today in a staff meeting, i'll let him know about the blog page21:11
gmannfungi: ok, thanks. I wrote it in etherpad too about the section - L59 https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/openstack-irc-migration-to-oftc21:12
