ttxI wonder if a good way to curb spurious patches would be to have a way to mark them as ignored in contribution stats07:57

persiattx: I very much think so.  Once we imposed the rule "a significant number of changes need to appear substantive in the eyes of the DMB", the number of spurious cosmetic patches we got in Ubuntu from folk just trying to get @ubuntu.com went down considerably.  As many of the processes in OpenStack are more automated, having an indicator tag or similar for reviewers would simplify the filtering at the time the permission/status/whatever was given08:08

openstackgerritKazunori Shinohara proposed openstack/governance master: Add xstatic-angular-material to horizon project  https://review.openstack.org/55187008:08
persiaThat said, there is a philosophy of contribution that encourages cosmetic things: having minor things broken makes the entire software stack more frustrating, although they should probably be done in the context of each project, or by arrangement for mass-filings, rather than just scatter-shot in an attempt to modify statistics, gain discounts, or similar.08:09

cmurphyI'm not convinced that disincentivizing those patches is a good thing, the army of url-fixers will come in handy if we ever un-namespace the git repos08:56
persiaTo my mind, the point of disincentivising those patches is to help organisations appreciate how to be involved in meaningful ways.  While having an army of url-fixers can be useful, those orgs that pay the salaries for the army would be better served if the army was replaced with an equal number of active upstream developers.08:59

dhellmannmaybe we should incentivize fast-approving the cleanups15:36
persiaVery likely, yes.  Helps give a good experience for newcomers and speed wide-ranging minor transitions (e.g. governance/ -> tc/governance).  Making that fast and smooth enough might even make up for the possible negative aspects for newcomers encountering disincentives for e.g. spelling fixes.15:42
persiaAlso, I consider something like inserting /tc/ in hundreds of files to be a significant change, especially if one is monitoring acceptance, noticing new introductions, etc.  Doing it once is just noise, although maybe a decent thing to use to learn how to use gerrit, etc.15:43

clarkbI'm catching up on the extended maintenance branch thread and I don't see it explicitly called out there, but from infra's perspective I think we would delete VM test images as soon as that VM's distro release is no longer supported by its upstream23:28
clarkbfor ubuntu this means after 5 years on an lts, fedora after ~13 months and so on23:29
clarkbI odn't think this is at odds with the plan but thought I'd throw it out there if that does create problems23:29
clarkbfungi: ^  you probably have some thoughts on that too23:29
