vbramhankarHello there !04:13
vbramhankarI am trying to install swift from openstack saoi's webpage. I am trying to follow the steps mentioned in the guide but there's one thing that I am facing.but first I will tell you about the configuration of my  host machine. It is i5 machine with 8 gigs of RAM I  have installed VMware on my windows machine and on top of it I have ubuntu(with 5Gigs of RAM) and everytime I execute this command.04:13
vbramhankarsudo fdisk /dev/sdb04:13
vbramhankarsudo mkfs.xfs /dev/sdb104:13
vbramhankarIt suggests to reboot and when I reboot Ubuntu . A  fresh installation of OS takes place everytime.04:13
vbramhankarI don't know if I am missing anything or doing something wrong as I am completely new in OpenStack I have very less experience and might miss some basic things. So please help me with getting started with swift.04:13
notmynamevbramhankar: that doesn't sound like anything I've heard of before. I'd suggest to start by looking into how vmware is exposing the drives to the guest machine. sounds like there may be something odd going on there. otherwise, checking for stuff like "boot media still in the cd drive" would be good04:45
vbramhankarnotmyname: about the boot media still in the drive I  check it everytime it is not there after the installation.05:02

mattoliverauvbramhankar: for SAIO, if you just want an environment you want to play with look at the Developer tools section on https://docs.openstack.org/swift/latest/associated_projects.html the Vagrant-all-in-one or te asnible one probably is the easest.22:12
mattoliverauvbramhankar: the ubuntu installer probably unmounts the CDROM drive at the end of the installtion. But you still have it connected in vmware. so next time you boot it'll load it again. I suggest after the installation, shut down the VM, open vmware and make sure the crdom device isn't pointing at the ISO. Also if your having trouble due to partitioning the drives, use the loopback method, where you create a sparse22:15
mattoliveraufile and then mount it as a drive/partition.22:15
