claygtimburke: the test_locked_container_dbs has a 15s timeout - which might be related to the default 10s node timeout :'(01:05
claygthis could be more complicated than first assumed01:06

timburkeoh... hey... zaitcev: look familiar? http://logs.openstack.org/17/636217/2/experimental/swift-tox-py27-centos-7/4fd5053/job-output.txt.gz#_2019-02-12_00_12_39_85872802:06
zaitcevtimburke, a sec02:06
timburkei guess there's something about centos in particular that doesn't like the heartbeating?02:06
zaitcevtimburke: yes. There should be 6 of them.02:06
zaitcevFAILED (failures=6)02:07
timburkei wonder if it's tied to eventlet version...02:07
mattoliverauzaitcev: cool, ta. I'll take a look02:26
zaitcevwoa, I'm amazed things actually work03:28
zaitcevI found why a ton of tests created /var/tmp/tmp03:29
zaitcevIf we were running tests in parallel, it could be a source of phantom problems when two of them created "container.db" there.03:30
openstackgerritPete Zaitcev proposed openstack/swift master: Leave less garbage in /var/tmp  https://review.openstack.org/63626203:50
kota_I'm back to online after short holidays. I'll catch up losf feature branch and recent upstreams.04:14

notmynamekota_: thanks. unfortunately, I've already sent my response without your suggestions. but thank you for taking the time to look04:51

clayggit so I finally got the probe-tests passing with the 20s node timeout and I get a "unittest" popped because the in process container server's are taking > 10s  to make a new sqlite db18:25
clayg*greater than 10s* - we don't have a bunch of replication going on in the background... there's not 10K other clients hammering those same disks.  10s is LONG TIME.  Are we thinking about this the wrong the way?18:26
claygidk, I guess we don't really want tests to be latency sensitive, I don't see any harm in identifying tests that ARE latency sensitive and trying to make them less so... and we're not going to stop doing integration testing - so "less latency sensitive" might be a reasonable endeavor... 🤷‍♂️18:28

timburkeclayg: i wonder how many of acoles's (surely good) ideas from https://review.openstack.org/#/c/181407/ have already landed now...21:37
patchbotpatch 181407 - swift - EC: Avoid conflicts when ssync'ing fragments - 12 patch sets21:37
zaitcevOh boy21:56
zaitcevliberasurecode fails building on s390x21:56
zaitcevI thought we fixed that a while ago.21:56
timburkeuh-oh. got a build log?21:56
zaitcevit's truncated for some reason, so no21:57
zaitcevI'll reproduce it and have a look...21:57
zaitcevFalse alarm, x86_64 failed too. It's just the notification message focused on s390x for some reason. And the reason appears to be "BUILDSTDERR: cc1: all warnings being treated as errors"21:59
zaitcevBUILDSTDERR: erasurecode_helpers.c: In function 'get_chksum':22:00
zaitcevBUILDSTDERR: erasurecode_helpers.c:500:25: error: taking address of packed member of 'struct fragment_metadata' may result in an unaligned pointer value [-Werror=address-of-packed-member]22:00
zaitcevBUILDSTDERR:   500 |     return (uint32_t *) header->meta.chksum;22:00
zaitcevI place the blame squarely onto Kevin and Tushar.22:00
zaitcevJust what were they thinking!22:00
zaitcevIt's not like all this unaligned bullshit is harmless on x86 either, it's just the CPU fixes it up in hardware.22:01
timburke:-( yeah, the struct alignment bit me when i was playing around with https://github.com/tipabu/erasurecode/, too...22:05
timburkei'd love to overhaul the EC fragment headers -- both on-disk and in-memory. but i'm not familiar enough with how to go about maintaining backwards-compat for C libs... nor do i really know the degree to which we *need to*. like, clearly we need to still be able to read old data off disk -- but do i need to make sure that we're a drop-in replacement for everybody that may have linked against the old version? it'd probably be nice... bu22:10
timburket how many consumers of libec are there, really?22:10
zaitcevOne can rename all functions or use the link-time magic.22:11
zaitcevBut it's a lot of effort for an unclear benefit.22:11
