mattoliveraukota_: morning01:42
DHEin case you didn't hear, I fixed the issue I had last week where the object reconstructor on a single-box lab would have random failures and it might be worth considering upstreaming. short version: SO_REUSEADDR (not to be confused with REUSEPORT) may scale better to many socket listening processes02:06
DHEwell, it's not code at this point...02:06
mattoliverauDHE: skimming scroll back, hmm, sounds very interesting! You should dump a braindump into the swift ideas page so we don't loose the idea and maybe it can be discussed async.02:20
mattoliverauie, dump your thoughts, explaination (even copy and pasted) into an etherpad (https://etherpad.openstack.org/) then make a link on https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Swift/ideas02:21

rlediseznotmyname: clayg: ^ this 3 patches might interest you. in our test case on an EC revert, we got a perf improvement of 5x or 6x. it's not done, there is tests to complete and i guess error cases to handle, but I'm interested in any feedbacks before we go further10:01

tdasilvaDHE: SO_REUSEADDR or REUSEPORT ?14:44
DHEso apparently I'm wrong and it's REUSEPORT, not REUSEADDR... but it works..14:44

notmynameCFP for the SDS devroom16:05
tdasilvanotmyname: yep, just posted the link above to kota_ rledisez16:05
notmynameoddly, they call ceph, gluster, and others as "SDS projects" and swift (or "SWIFT") is SDS related16:05
notmynameah. seems my IRC client closed unexpectedly and I lost scrollback16:06
notmynamewhoa. look at all those ssync patches rledisez proposed16:07
notmynameDHE: did you get your wiki login issues sorted?16:08
DHEno, but I did make a quick etherpad16:09

notmynameah! I see it at the bottom of https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Swift/ideas. looks like it got added already16:10

frankie64 Can anyone point me to a site that has directions for building an openstack VM that actually works.  Every one that i have found to date, something doesnt work, even if I follow the directions to the letter.  need to setup a VM to do testing of our software with.  looking for either a VM image or working instructions to setup a vm16:36
notmynamefrankie64: when you say you are wanting "an openstack VM", what are you wanting to do with it? normally when people say that, they mean they want to run VMs. however, you're asking in the -swift channel, and swift is normally deployed separately from VM-hosting infrastructure. so... what are you looking for?16:41
frankie64There are openstack-swift all in on vms, mainly for using for testing...17:13

tdasilvafrankie64: if you are looking for SAIO VMs for testing purposes checkout this section: https://github.com/openstack/swift/blob/master/doc/source/associated_projects.rst#developer-tools17:42
tdasilvabut these are just running swift, not any other openstack project (not even keystone AFAIK)17:43
timburkefwiw, i typically use https://github.com/swiftstack/vagrant-swift-all-in-one for my dev work18:30
