DHEI think I've mentioned this before, but the docs mention composite rings a fair bit in the advanced stuff but the swift-ring-composer is still just in review (not merged yet)00:37

mattoliverauDHE: The classes are there if you use it programically. But yeah, we should go land the basic composer. Thanks for reminding me :)00:55

ignaziohi everyone06:20
ignazioI configured ocata with three vm backends06:21
ignazioand one proxy06:21
ignaziowhen a storage backends goes down, proxy continues to redirect write requests to it. Is is the default behaviour ?06:22
ignazioPlease, could anyone help me ?06:23
*** pcaruana has joined #openstack-swift06:27
mattoliverauignazio: yup this is normal. In a large geographic cluster you don't want a simple network blip to cause a ton of data movement. Or during an upgrade (when you take down 1 node). The node wont respond so the proxy will redirect to a handoff location to keep durability. There are some smarts that a proxy will be track for a period of time back nodes so it may not always go to a bad node.06:37
mattoliverauthis is a high level over simplistic answer, as it'll also depend on what reponse you get from the server.06:38
mattoliverauif you want to remove the server preminatley you need to remove it from the ring and rebalance.06:38

ignazioMottolivearau, How can implement any smart to track for a period of of time ?07:06
ignazioI am using swift only for swift signal by heat , so I do not use it to store lot of data07:08
ignazioIn other words, what can I do to exclude automatically the shutted  down node ?07:09

DHEI know he's gone, but a solution I wanted to try was to have all storage (ACO) nodes in a single, say, /16 block. Each proxy has a /16 reject route in the routing table and then servers run a routing protocol to advertise their own /32 into the network. if they die, the /32 is revoked and each node fast fails on connect()09:47
