mattoliverautimburke, tdasilva: so what's our general plan with py3 strings.. I assume over the wire (so from requests etc) we should use byte strings. But interally should we alwasy use unicode. For more context, I'm playing with converting contraints over to py3. However, we have a bunch of string 'in' tests (e.g. 'r' in 'result') that will fail if each of the sides differ (one bytestring other unicode). So thinking this is03:07
mattoliverauwhere we need some dev rule. Like do we just check and convery _everything_ to say unicode unless its going out/in across the wire? (just want to be consistent). Maybe I'll add the question to the py3 etherpad.03:07

timburkemattoliverau: re py3 strings: it depends :-( i feel like keeping things unicode is generally preferable -- but wsgi ties our hands a lot. request/response headers and metadata *must* be native strings, which means bytes on py2 and mojibake on py316:48
timburkei really *really* wish there was a way to declare an encoding for the entire app and make everything be plain old unicode16:50
