acoleskota_: re patch 283946, when I tried to figure out what that test was doing it did not seem to be calling the _mock_process, maybe because soem ocndition in the update/sync methods prevented ever attempting rsync. which is why I removed it all.10:02

patchbotpatch 391617 - swift - object-replicator cleanup12:22
kota_acoles: good call, mayb i get your concern12:27
kota_maybe12:27
kota_so the replicate after sync is just for re-hashing in remote side and if the sync succeeded, we should not to sync another node in the region12:28
acoleskota_: yes, that is what I am wondering. it seems like maybe it is a deliberate choice to ignore that second REPLICATE failing (although it might be good to log it), but its hard to know if it was deliberate or a mistake to ignore the fail!!12:29
*** nexusz99 has joined #openstack-swift12:30
acoleskota_: and I'm also not sure... if the second REPLICATE fails, so the remote node has not re-calculates its suffix hashes, when *does* the remote node recalc the hashes?12:31

*** nexusz99 has quit IRC12:31

*** vint_bra has joined #openstack-swift12:32
kota_the replicator can find the difference, try to sync but actually nothing to sync due to the rsync/ssync protocol and then hashing12:33
kota_maybe?12:33

*** dmorita has quit IRC12:40
acolesright. so, in the remote region, the synced node has updated objs but failed to recalculate its hashes, so when it replicates locally to another node it may compare stale suffix hashes (and therefore not sync to another local node).12:40

mattoliveraubeen an annoying few days trying to rebuild a big enough cluster in the cloud, but last night I finished it and got the very large container sharding on the new sharding code.. so far so good, I see alot of containers and no errors (well no obvious ones yet).. but I've only just to the computer so haven't looked too closely.. but so far so good :)22:14
openstackgerritJohn Dickinson proposed openstack/swift: Merge branch 'master' into 'feature/hummingbird'  https://review.openstack.org/40098522:14
notmynamethis ^ is necessary to get the gate passing again22:14
notmynamenice. super clean merge22:15
notmynamemattoliverau: cool22:15

mattoliverauit seems to be going a lot faster (there are alot of containers and it's only be running for 8 - 10 hours). Next step will be sharding with load to see how much better it behaves as it continues to off load more and more traffic away from the large container.22:17
timburkemattoliverau: sweet! so the read-only status is paying off?22:21
mattoliverauits early days, I've also added batching (sharding a few shards at a time) and now all primary nodes coordinate better with each other, which I'm sure is helping... But I think so. :)22:23
jrichlinotmyname: thanks for the heads up on the tox.ini, and thanks acoles for the rebasing you did the other day22:30

notmynamejrichli: oh hi22:32
jrichliwell, the plans were to get some work done by now, but ... I took a real vacation instead.  But I might do some work over the next 2 days22:33
notmynameright. what else is going on in the next 2 days?22:34
timburkejrichli: nah, trust your instincts22:34
jrichlii am visiting big D - seeing some old friends - then off to see the fam22:34
notmynamehmm..that merge generated a lot of email spam22:36
mattoliveraunotmyname: wow yeah thanks for that :P22:39
timburkeprotip: set up a filter to delete all mail with a subject that contains "Fix proposed to swift (feature/" and body that contains "You received this bug notification because you are a member of Swift Core security contacts"22:42
