skriptexperts - I have an issue with swift setup. swift stat gives me 503 Internal errors - consistently for sometime now. Not sure where things are configured wrongly. Trying to debug - need some help - I am rookie.18:34

skriptI have been trying for two days now. My /etc/swift/proxy-server.conf - is a mess now. I removed keystone auth initially - to test. That worked. I re-added the keystone auth, configured everything AFAIK - but not sure where I messed up18:45

pdardeauunfortunately, i haven't made use of swift with keystone, so i don't have firsthand knowledge of the setup.18:55
pdardeaui would try to use curl against keystone with scoped token to see what comes back in service catalog18:56
pdardeauand see if the service catalog info looks correct for your swift configuration18:56
claygpdardeau: ho is working on vagrant-swift-all-in-one with keystone -> https://github.com/swiftstack/vagrant-swift-all-in-one/tree/keystone-auth18:56
claygpdardeau: then there's always keystone18:56
clayger... devstack has keystone and swift18:56

pdardeauskript: gmmaha was looking at keystone with swift within last few weeks, so it may be fresh in his mind (when you see him online)18:58
skriptthanks pdardeau. will dig on. Yes - the service catalog does seem correct18:59

pdardeauskript: you might also try -debug option with client (might give some clues)19:03
skriptyes - that's where I found a string of errors19:04
skriptstarted with a 403.. moved to a 503 .. then later a 401 and finally settled back into 503. (I get the 503 - typically when keystoneauth is disabled)19:05
skriptProgress from one 403 to 500 Internal Error to another 403. First change I performed was: bind_ip on the container-server.conf, account-server.conf and object-server.conf were updated to reflect the correct ip. Not sure if it would make a difference - apparently it did (also updated the ip in proxy-server.conf). After this, I faced 500 Internal Error... and subsequently I had to remove tempauth from the pipeline in proxy-serv19:10
skriptThese were the initial steps I performed ... before disabling keystoneauth altogether19:10

claygthat auth token there used in the in the request for the 403 response doesn't really look like a keystone token - maybe like a really old version?  I think these days they're like... bigger19:32
claygit doesn't look like a tempauth token either since those have a reseller prefix19:32
skriptits juno19:32
clayg... so how'd you get that token?  you're just using --debug with swift cli?19:32
skriptyup - just using swift --debug stat (with OS_USERNAME ... etc set)19:33
claygskript: that's old right?  is this like a legacy installation you're migrating to keystone?  maybe you want to upgrade?19:33
*** david-lyle has quit IRC19:33
*** david-lyle has joined #openstack-swift19:33
claygskript: what's your auth url?  what version of auth are you using?19:34
skriptit's an environment I can't quite control for an upgrade. I am tasked to just debug this problem :)19:34
skriptv2.0 on the controller.19:34
skripthttp://10.118.207.9:5000/v2.019:35
skriptswift .. .http://10.118.207.9:8080/v119:35
claygwell the storage url should come back from the auth system19:35
claygyou have keystone and swift running on the same box?19:36
skriptyup19:36
skriptkeystone and swift both running on the same box19:36
skriptswift - proxy server, account, container, object (storage node) services - all of them on the same box19:37
skriptits a tiny pilot19:37
claygthe old keystone middleware used to have some problem with logging made debugging terribly difficult :\19:37
claygat least it looks to all be http - I'd get my wireshark going19:37
claygif it's a pilot then why does it have to be so old!?  :D19:37
claygi'd say the most likely problem is that the service account configured for swift in keystone can't validate user tokens19:38
skriptall valid questions - but I am constrained.19:38
skripthow do I fix that... ? I basically have two tenants ... demo and service. All my services are in the service tenant.19:39
claygbut I'm not a keystone api expert - and all the nested json doesn't lend well to debugging with curl19:39
skriptand the user with which I am invoking stat etc - is in the demo tenant.19:40
claygskript: i'm sorry man, that's really a keystone question (#openstack-keystone might be able to help) - is keystone a requirement?19:40
skriptnot really19:40
skriptI can get rid of it ... as long as the swift works from horizon too19:40
claygskript: I would guess anything that supports v2 auth could work in horizon, but dunno I've ever tried the horizon swift dashboard19:41
*** ChubYann has joined #openstack-swift19:42
claygother things in horizon might be hot on some keystone tho19:42
skriptthanks clayg -19:42
*** david-lyle has quit IRC19:42
claygso if you *have* to deploy keystone for other stuff; it might make sense to get it working with swift - but like I said - you'll probably have to debug the connections swift is making to keystone with wireshark - because the old keystone middleware had some problems with not logging anything useful19:42
*** david-lyle has joined #openstack-swift19:43
clayganother potential issue (besides wrong roles/attributes on the services user or mis-config) is just incomptible versions of keystone and keystone middleware(s)19:43
claygbut again tcpdump/wireshark would sus this all out pretty quickly - you can look at the reqeusts the keystone middleware is making to keystone and the responses it's throwing back19:44
claygif it's something about 400 bad request - probably wrong version19:44
claygif keystone returns 403 to swift then it's account doesn't have enough privledges19:45
claygnewer keystone middlewares (auth_token, etc) should do a better job of logging all this19:45
