tsubicGuys, does any of you have experiecnce with swift-storlets?12:23
hrouI do to a certain degree, I've been working with the team that created the project over the last week or so12:24
tsubicOh wow, great, do you guys have a seperated IRC channel? I am having trouble with the installation, when I run it with "-s" it just hangs on "gathering facts"12:26
tsubicany tips?12:26
tsubicand without "-s" it just throws some errors12:26
hrouNo, no separate IRC, but one big tip ; )  I very much struggled through the installation process, in doing so, we found many issues that have been addressed (or are being addressed) as we speak.  Ideally you drive the installation with root (even though the docs suggest you can otherwise), sudo user, will require promting, and there is a point where it attempts to spawn another process to run another anisble script.12:28
*** acampbell has joined #openstack-swift12:28
hrou* I'm referring to the credentials used in the hosts file for ssh.12:29
tsubicThe credentials I use are from the root user, this is a new swift installation for testing the storlets and I just have one user12:31
hrouGenerally when you see a hang its because ansible isn't able to log into the host, try running with -vvv, it should provide a lot more detail and you can see where its stuck.12:32

hroutsubic: *swift IRC channel12:45
tsubichrou: thank you, I am writing you :D12:46
hroutsubic:  That's great !  I'm glad other folks are trying this out, I think there are a lot of interesting applications with swift and storlets;  But the installation process can be streamlined.12:48
tsubichrou: you know, these storlets remind me of the programmable shaders on GPUs which now have evolved into GPGPU computing, and therefore I find it very exciting :D12:50
tsubicmaybe someday something big will grow out of this too12:50
hroutsubic:  Interestingly enough there's been talk of using H/W acceleration, whether through fpga's or gpu's exactly in the manner you describe for allowing compute jobs to run on the proxy or object server.12:51
hroutsubic:  Speaking on behalf of some storlet applications that is.12:51

joeljwrightmixpix3ls: sorry I didn't have better news - I think I'll raise this as an issue15:09
mixpix3lsSounds good. Given that local filesystem directories can be specified in `swift upload`, it would be great if it were the same for `swift delete` as well.15:10
joeljwrightmixpix3ls: well the prefix would have to be an object prefix, not a filesystem prefix15:11
joeljwrightmixpix3ls: and be really careful with xargs to check you're not deleting the whole container!15:11
joeljwrightmixpix3ls: speaking from painful experience!15:12

ccavannaHi. Question about the review process for patches. I received my first comment (yay!) and I was wondering about the best way to discuss it. Would this channel be appropriate for that purpose?15:24
joeljwrightccavanna: this is probably a good place to start15:24
ccavannaGreat. My patch is about posting stats to Graphite for the commands by policy. This way, we get the current set of stats per command, but we also have stats separated by policy.15:27
ccavannaI organized this by policy name, but the suggestion from the comment was to organize it by policy id (because policy names can change)15:28
*** janonymous_ has joined #openstack-swift15:28
ccavannaHowever, won't policy names provide better readability?15:29
ccavannaAnd it may be more meaningful for the operator.15:30

ccavannaSure, I can do that. From the review system features, it doesn't seem to be possible to discuss directly with the reviewer.15:33

ccavannaBut there's no forum-like feature or way to contact the reviewer directly.15:34

notmynameI've got some results somewhere, but they aren't current17:13
pelusecool, yeah we saw those so are running latest/greatest as we had some internal folks asking17:14
timburkenotmyname: good point. we certainly don't have anything meaningful on stable/kilo *now*, and we've gone to great lengths to ensure that tip-of-master python-swiftclient can run on some rather old systems17:15

notmynameyeah. granted it would all probably be local (ie the data would move to another drive on the same server), but yeah, you'd have a lot of data movement and potential a lot of unavailability of the data (depending on how much data has to move)22:29

pelusesheeeeeit22:33
pelusethere's a 200 for each frag archive (this is a 10 scheme).  But I totally don't get the 404's and the extra 201s22:34
torgomaticpeluse: I think the 404s are there to assert that we look that deeply into handoffs to get the pieces we need, so we get ec_ndata worth in the end22:35
torgomaticthe 201s are probably the PUT responses; if we're going EC->replicated, there'd be 3x 201 responses22:35
peluseahh, the 201's make sense.  i'll dig a bit more into the 404's with that clue.  I'm modifying for the alt frag index patch and getting unexpected stuff.  thanks!22:36
notmynamepeluse: if you do figure it out, a patch with a comment explaining it would be nice :-)22:36
