claygwasn't there gunna be this solver that said we can make dependencies be whatever we want as long as we don't conflict?03:55

If I wanted to list all containers the command is swift -A http://127.0.0.1/auth/v1.0 -U tester -K $pass list - is $pass the password set in /etc/swift/test.conf or is it the token you get sent back? dfg't really know what those words really mean :)17:32
claygthere should be like a big red light at the top of review.openstack.org when the gate is all messed up - i'm rechecking like a mad fool lately17:32
claygdfg: well, you have to teach auth how to do it... you can't really memonize authorization, but you can authentication totally - unfortunately authentication isn't really part of the public interface for the auth middleware callbacks... so I thought the skip the token authn trick might allow us to bypass resetting REMOTE_USER17:34
claygbut yeah I'm realizing now that get_groups should probably just *always* just skip if the env is already setup17:34
dfgya- i was just wondering about that too. like- the token is never going to change. is it ever the case that you'd want it to expire?17:37
dfgclayg: you don't even need to pop it out of the env- you just need to get rid of the adding it into the headers. make_env doesn't copy over the token to begin with. maybe that was on purpose and we just messed it up by adding it back in.17:38
dfgwe being "me" i'm sure17:38
dfgof course env_make grew out of make_pre_auth so who knows... i hate those functions. they're always causing problems.17:40

dmsimardI'm having a bit of an architectural challenge for a multi region swift.. Perhaps you guys have an idea.21:04
dmsimardLet's pretend I want 3 swift regions, 3 zones in each region. It would be the same logical cluster, one ring for the three regions - because I potentially need to do offsite replicas.21:05
*** annegentle has joined #openstack-swift21:06
dmsimardDue to constraints I can do little about, each region will have a server which will hold the ring for that region and the servers in that region will pull the ring databases through rsync.21:06
dmsimardThis works fine and well if I want the clusters to be independent from each other but I need somehow to "aggregate" the three different rings21:07
dmsimardSo that each region is aware of each other.21:08
dmsimardI really wish I could have a single, central, point where I could build and distribute the ring from - this would make this whole thing easier.21:10
notmynamedmsimard: well, I don't want to be simplistic, but you don't have to have access to a server in order to add it to a ring. ie if you know the IP and port and mountpoint of the drives in another region, then you can add them from anywhere21:11
*** sneezewort has joined #openstack-swift21:14
dmsimardnotmyname: I already knew that but that sparked a little light in that brain of mine. Let me see......21:15
dmsimardnotmyname: Hmm, yeah, see.. the way the deployment currently works is that what I call my "ring server" (who builds, rebalances, distributes the ring) pulls the devices and their configuration from the storage nodes. I could do something like you proposed if I found a way for the storage nodes to push their configuration instead.21:17
notmynameeg keep a hardware manifest, track what's up and what's failed, even rebalance gradually over time21:19
