rcarrillocruzmordred: heya, so, oaktree: is that some sort of a shade REST API ? That's what I heard...13:26
mordredrcarrillocruz: close - it's some sort of shade gRPC API13:28
* rcarrillocruz googles grpc13:28
rcarrillocruzdo you have that in your github repos or something?13:29
rcarrillocruzor is the work being started now13:29
rcarrillocruz?13:29
mordredrcarrillocruz: I just pushed up a patch to get the repos added to infra, in fact :)13:29
rcarrillocruzyeah, just spotted the projects.yaml where you import it from :-)13:31

thingeercarrillocruz are you still working on https://storyboard.openstack.org/?#!/story/200053715:05
rcarrillocruzthingee: iirc, we chatted about it with mordred  and nikhil komawar, what we got is that they were doing a refactor of that feature in glance and we better waited. And I haven't come back to it15:09
rcarrillocruzif you wanna pick, feel free, if you're doing a cleanup of stale stories thanks for the ping, i can unassign cos i have quite a bit on my plate right now15:10
*** edtubill has quit IRC15:10
thingeercarrillocruz cool. updated it with that information15:12
*** edtubill has joined #openstack-shade15:19
mordredthingee: my understanding is that --location as a concept is not supported in glance moving forward15:20
thingeemordred got it. is this in their current spec of upload?15:20
*** edtubill has quit IRC15:21
mordredperhaps? I'd have to go read to be sure15:28
thingeeI have lost track of that discussion at this point15:35
thingeehow do you test ansible-core-module patches?15:41
ShrewsLOL HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA15:47
Shrewsthingee: my BIGGEST gripe these days is that NO ONE TESTS THEM... not even the PR submitter15:48
Shrewsbut what i do is use the -M option to ansible-playbook15:48
thingeeShrews ah ok, I guess I was on the right track reading http://docs.ansible.com/ansible/dev_guide/developing_modules.html#testing-modules15:48
thingeeoh I see ansible-playbook tho, not test-module15:49
thingeeyeah just wanted to try out https://github.com/ansible/ansible-modules-core/pull/521915:49
Shrewsi don't like using test-module15:49
Shrewsi just write a quick playbook to test it15:50
Shrewsah, that's one i meant to get back to15:51
thingeeI still don't understand how test-module works. I was expecting to say, here's the path to module I'm testing and here's a yaml file15:51
Shrewsi don't think test-module uses yaml files. you have to pass params in explicitly, iirc15:51
thingeeah got it. yea I'll just trying ansible-playbook then. thanks15:52
Shrewsthingee: if you're testing 5219, please leave a ship_it comment if it works for you, then i'll merge it15:52
thingeeShrews are people ok with the approach tho?15:53
Shrews*shrug*  i have no issue with it. plus, i trust jlk15:54
Shrewsif anyone has an issue, would be nice if they speak up  :)15:55
ShrewsOS module reviews is sort of an echo chamber of me/jlk/mordred/rcarrillocruz. very few others comment/review15:56

mordredthingee: yah. we'll be happy to add you to that list of humans pretty quickly :)15:57
Shrews++15:58
rcarrillocruzthingee: are you being more involved in shade/ansible now for interop stuff or something?15:59
rcarrillocruzhappy to get more help16:00
thingeeI've been mostly talking a lot about these different tools in my presentations to do outreach and I figured it would be nice for me to also contribute. Plus from the foundation's perspective we like these tools to help the app devs in the different hacking group events we've been putting on.16:01

SpamapSshade.exc.OpenStackCloudException: shade requires at least version 1.20.0 of os-client-config23:00
SpamapS^^ in case you're wondering why shade is stuck at 1.7.0 in Debian... :-P23:00
* SpamapS would love to see a day where shade can work with not-the-absolute-crazy-latest-os-client-config23:01
mordredSpamapS: yah. me too23:02
mordredSpamapS: is there anything blocking updating os-client-config to 1.20.0 in Debian?23:02
mordredor do I just need to go poke zigo?23:02
SpamapSmordred: just zigo not working nice with DPMT23:03
SpamapS(since if these things were in DPMT, we could just update them without him)23:04
mordredawesome23:04
mordredthat's my favorite reason23:04
SpamapSbut I'm sure that' snot a happy conversation w/ zigo23:04
SpamapSso yeah, he needs a poke probably23:04
SpamapSUsually he does it a bit after release, so I'd expect he's just a couple weeks from updating to 1.2223:04
SpamapSTo be fair, DPMT _are_ intollerant of those who want to work other ways23:05
SpamapSThey're sticklers about using processes that enable large scale team based python module management. Silly DPMT.23:05
mordredturns out scaling a team to a large number of people usually means reducing the acceptable amount of individual variance23:06
SpamapSthat's CRAZY talk23:06
SpamapSCRAZY23:06
mordredikr?23:07
mordredSpamapS: the first patches in the sequence towards getting rid of the client libs from shade have landed, btw23:09
SpamapSossssumm23:09
SpamapSbecause...23:09
mordredit's not going to be quick - largely just because of verifying tests and whatnot23:09
SpamapSholy crap the build deps23:09
mordredyah23:09
mordredit's a shitshow23:10
mordredit's also problematic for our centos friends - because shade wants latest, typically, but that may not be the version of openstack installed23:10
SpamapShttps://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/python-modules/packages/python-shade.git/tree/debian/control#n623:10
mordredso hopefully maybe this cycle we can slog that list down to none23:10
SpamapSbtw I just landed python3-shade in Debian23:11
SpamapS1.7.0 but still python3 yay23:11
mordredwoot!23:11
SpamapSfor.. the 3 things on the planet that import shade in python3 ;)23:11
mordred:)23:11
SpamapSI hear Ansible is trying23:11
mordredyah. also dhellman suggested we make oaktree python3 only23:12
mordredwhich I find tempting23:13
mordredif we publish dockers of it I think those should be python3 for sure23:13
mordredbut I can't quite find any good justification to make it cease supporting 2.7 ... yet23:13
mordred(although I really want to)23:14
