reedipI searched the whole OSC but couldnt find the sdk_session anywhere else except the patch in progress ( please correct me if I am wrong ) sindhu15:40

openstackgerritSindhu Devale proposed openstack/python-openstackclient master: "floating ip set/unset port" for OSC  https://review.openstack.org/38302516:15
dtroyerbriancurtin: got a question on how SDK handles resource attribute updates.  Specifically I am looking at port security_groups, and find that adding one fails in this case:  a) port has at least one existing security group; b) add a new security group ID at the end of the list of existing groups.  No PUT is executed.  If I add the new ID to the beginning of the list the PUT is sent.16:21
dtroyerI've started looking for where this update detection happens in SDK and have not traced it down yet...16:22
reedipdtroyer : really ????16:23

openstackgerritDean Troyer proposed openstack/python-openstackclient master: Simplify logic around option lists in port set  https://review.openstack.org/43904816:28
dtroyerreedip: ^^^^ is what I am doing.16:28
briancurtindtroyer: looking16:28
reedipdtroyer: yeah saw that and reviewing the same16:29
dtroyerwe've gotten a bit complicated in option handling and its hard to follow16:29
briancurtindtroyer: ah, i’ll have to look up my special methods again, but i bet it’s that we’re not catching the += in setting the dirty. we currently set it based on __setitem__16:30
dtroyerah, ok.   .append() then maybe?16:30
*** salv-orlando has quit IRC16:32
briancurtinwhat you’re doing should work (fixing and releasing that in a coordinated way is another matter)—what should work no matter what would be to get the value, do the append (or even a += to a local value), and then do the fixed_ips=my_new_thing instead of doing it in-place16:32
reedipdtroyer : Line #740 in https://review.openstack.org/#/c/439048/1/openstackclient/network/v2/port.py16:33
dtroyerok, that may be cleaner anyway too.  I'm re-doing this because I couldn't follow the logic without a lot of caffiene… :)16:33
briancurtini think that’s what we’re missing. the value itself is being appended to fine, but it’s not flagging the dirty setting because the in-place operation (i think, looking up something right now)16:33
dtroyerI think that is what I see too briancurtin, I finally found _ComponentManager :)16:34
*** e0ne has quit IRC16:36
reedipdtroyer : One thing I cannot understand is why  the attrs object is not able to update the info on the neutron server side16:39
dtroyerreedip: SDK Resource tracks attributes that have been changed (dirty) and only sends back the ones actually changed for update().  Setting the dirty flag is not happening in some cases16:40
reedipdtroyer : I remember having this discussion with stevemar , I guess16:42
reedipbut cant see why the dirty flag isnt set ( being the original writer of this patch, I would need the feedback for future reference :) )16:43
*** salv-orlando has joined #openstack-sdks16:44
dtroyerreedip: briancurtin thought it might be because using += modifies the attribute in place and doens't pass through __setitem__(), which is where the dirty flag is set.16:46
dtroyerWithout tracing it I think I agree16:46
reedipdtroyer : so , we shouldnt use += in Set attributes ( sounds like a doc update :P )16:47
dtroyerI'm trying to make the handling of these arguments clearer, it took me a while to understand what was happening before16:47
dtroyermaybe not in this case, no16:47
reedipdtroyer : so this is a case by case basis ?16:47
dtroyerat least when operating on an attribute obtained from an SDK object16:47
dtroyerI think that is the distinction; if we used a copy of an object attribute it might have worked16:48
reedipdtroyer : ok ...16:53
dtroyerhmmmm, of the 3 options pairs I am looking at, security groups was the only one to not iterate over the existing list16:54
reedipthe only difference which I found was that we are using the client.find_xxx function for SG16:57
reedipdtroyer: for fixed-ip and allowed-address-pair , we didnt execute the find function16:57
reedipcan that be of some impact , dtroyer ?16:58
dtroyerI don' tthink that is involved, that is looping over the 'new' values16:58
dtroyeractually, I think using [].extend() rather than += will be enough of a change16:59
reedipdtroyer : ok, because += was used with fixed-ips as well, and if it was updated successfully, then maybe something else is wrong16:59
dtroyerfixed_ips never directly re-used the list from the resource object, it iterated over it17:00
reedipdtroyer : ok17:00
dtroyerthat forced __setitem__() to be called17:00
reedipyeah , makes sense17:00
dtroyerso I think we'll do both, it seems clearer to me17:01
reedipdtroyer : ok :)17:03

reedipNote : I dont think we would be migrating LBaaS v1 to OSC19:06
reedipconfirming the same from lbaas team19:06
ankur-gupta-f1waiting for Lbaasv219:07
ankur-gupta-f1reedip: ^^19:07
reedipSo we can remove the LBaaS v1 from the sheet19:07
reedipas per johnsom: neutron-lbaas v1 API will not be supported by OSC, you will have to use the legacy neutron client ]19:08
ankur-gupta-f1thats what I was saying. It won't be done probably this cycle either19:08
johnsomYeah, no nlbaas v1 API support in OSC19:09
reedipso we can remove that from the sheet, to get a better report19:09
reedipI mean we do not need to track what we do not want to move , aint it ?19:09
ankur-gupta-f1agreed. Plus it takes up so much space haha19:10
reedipupdated the sheet , please check19:11
reedipI am not removing them though, changed their status for now : stevemar, please confirm  :)19:11

ankur-gupta-f1fine :|19:13
reedipwhat ?? dissapointed ?? :D19:14
ankur-gupta-f1never :P19:16
reedipUpdated the sheet, now we are 42% complete !19:17
mordredthingee: it's a new flag and I just didn't get through checking all of them - not having a setting should be safe, since that's the current "I dunno, you go figure it out" situation. adding positive attestations should allow us to optimize calling code to not have to figure out19:17

rabel_b1I submitted a patch a few days ago and it got merged. https://review.openstack.org/#/c/437335/ Now I wanted to ask if I have to change something in the docs, too19:23
ankur-gupta-f1rabel_b1: no need. You just changed the logic of an existing command19:24

openstackgerritMonty Taylor proposed openstack/os-client-config master: Add helper factory functions for use in OpenStack services  https://review.openstack.org/43912019:26
jkilpatrhey I'm getting keystone errors when running some openstack sdk calls, but I'm authed as admin so I'm trying to figure out if it's a perms issue or if the api call (bare_metal.node_update(id, **kwargs)) is the culprit.19:27
jkilpatroh I guess I should say that a 400 is being returned by keystone, which is odd because I'm just using the oepnstack sdk to make the request and all other calls work19:28
jkilpatrcode here https://github.com/jkilpatr/ostag19:29
briancurtinthere is no node_update method in the bare_metal part of openstacksdk19:29
jkilpatrsorry update_node19:29
briancurtini guess you’ll need some sort of logs or example code. i don’t know how/why a 400 would be returned by whatever it is that you’re doing19:30
rabel_b1reedip, ankur-gupta-f1: what about doc/source/command-object/image.rst ?19:30
rabel_b1shouldn't it be adjusted to what openstack help image create gives?19:31
*** prg3 has quit IRC19:31
briancurtinjkilpatr: enable the logs and then run what you’re doing: https://developer.openstack.org/sdks/python/openstacksdk/users/utils.html#openstack.utils.enable_logging19:31
reediprabel_b1 : Just  min19:31
jkilpatrbriancurtin, ok19:31
stevemarankur-gupta-f1: should i convert the spread sheet to a csv and upload it now?19:32
ankur-gupta-f1stevemar: yea and add me so i can double check. but it looks updated thus far19:32
reedipNo need to update the rst but a release note may be required to specify that now -file and --volume cannot be specified each other19:32
briancurtinjkilpatr: or does the exception message say what exactly about the request returning a 400 is bad? I’m guessing we’re probably sending something we shouldnt19:32
briancurtin(that might have to come out of the logs though)19:33
reedipis the gate OK ? Its taking longer than avg to process patches19:38
rabel_b1reedip : the behaviour actually did not change. it was not possible before my patch either. but now it is handled by the exclusive_group. the only real difference is, that now --file and --volume are shown as exclusive in the "openstack help image create" output. that's why I thought about changing the rst as well, so it fits again.19:39
reediprabel_b1 : https://github.com/openstack/python-openstackclient/blob/master/doc/source/command-objects/image.rst  , yes change it19:43
jkilpatrbriancurtin, https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/NYk1V7ShVeenT3qbEsl9oV5M1UNdIGYhyRLivL9gydE=19:44
jkilpatrthat's the error.19:44
rabel_b1reedip : thank you19:44
jkilpatrbriancurtin, it's caused by these lines19:44
reediprabel_b1 : glad to help19:46
briancurtinjkilpatr: something about your capabilities string makes it not a valid list. i don’t work on ironic and the documentation isn’t very helpful on that (“capabilities” doesnt even appear in the REST API docs). id maybe check with that team to figure out what kind of request should actually be sent19:51
dhellmanndtroyer, stevemar : I just added you to this review to install OSC under python3 by default in python3 jobs: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/439112/19:52
jkilpatrbriancurtin, happens with the same error if I try to lets say modify the node name, https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/mihOWmmHMQzcWfSr47zOaF5M1UNdIGYhyRLivL9gydE=19:55
jkilpatrso that's just bare_metal.node_update(uuid, name="test")19:55
jkilpatrnothing fancy, no list shenenegans simpliest possible call19:56
rabel_b1reedip : is there a way to automatically generate those files? because it looks like the file (image.rst) does not distinguish between v1 v2 for "image set" and "image create" while they actually do differ.19:56
reedipNope, manual is the way to go :P19:56
briancurtinjkilpatr: i guess submit a bug to https://bugs.launchpad.net/python-openstacksdk and maybe someone will know what any of that means19:57
dtroyerrabel_b1: v1 and v2 should be as identical as possible, with the differences noted in the doc19:57
dtroyerdhellmann: cool, trying it now19:58
rabel_b1reedip, dtroyer : wouldn't it be a good idea to write a little script that parses output of "openstack help ..." to generate those files? in the long term it's less duplicate work and less error-prone.20:00
reediprabel_b1 : I dont know if such a script exists , but if it doesnt, please be our guest . That would be greatly appreciated :)20:01
dtroyerrabel_b1: be my guest… but inlcude all of the text that explains the options (we really should have a LOT more of that) too20:01
rabel_b1sry, wrong window20:01
dtroyerFWIW, there are also syntax things that can not be expressed in apgparse that is in the docs...20:02
reedipdtroyer ; agreed20:02
reediprabel_b1 : if there is a lot of difference between v1 and v2 of image, please log a bug for that for verification20:03
rabel_b1reedip : there are already TODOs in v2/image.py . maybe there is already a bug open for this?20:04
rabel_b1reedip, dtroyer : i would like to write such a script or at least help writing it.20:05
reediprabel_b1 : you can definetly start working on this, if you have bandwidth20:06
reediprabel_b1 : the todo in image.py may not correspond to the text mismatch in image,rst20:07
dtroyerrabel_b1: that is a pretty low priority for us overall, and will have a fair number of exceptions20:07

rabel_b1one last question: how to indicate a difference between v2 and v1 in image.rst?20:19
