mnasiadkaelodilles: when is the last moment to include a repo in 2024.1? I think that ship has sailed?14:47
elodillesmnasiadka: milestone-2 is the deadline in every cycle, but the best is to add it as soon as possible, preferably before milestone-115:03
elodillesmnasiadka: out of curiosity, which repo did you want to add?15:04
mnasiadkaelodilles: well, an out of tree driver for Magnum - related to the discussion on the ML, which is currently located in GitHub under my company namespace - I'll get a sign off from the current PTL and come back with a patch to create the repo and add it to the release15:05
elodillesACK, i see, thanks for the info. anyway, yepp, it's too late for Caracal. best is to add it deliverables of 2024.2 Dalmatian, shortly after the official release of 2024.1 Caracal (2024-04-03)15:08
mnasiadkaelodilles: actually we might want it to become independent instead of cycle-with-rc - is that allowable for a driver (which is basically a library I guess)? According to https://releases.openstack.org/reference/release_models.html I see it is15:11
elodillesi think so, yes15:30
mnasiadkaOk, thanks - will raise relevant patches15:30
elodilles+115:30
mnasiadkaelodilles: in which repo do I need to mark that new repo as independent? somewhere in openstack/releases?16:01
clarkbI'm working on cleaning up old distros from opendev's nodepool service. One thing I'm noticing is that we don't seem to have a scrub release for old stuff process in our release process16:39
clarkbfor example I now need to remove debian buster from nearly all the branches in openstack/requirements when buster was really only relevant to the oldest of these branches16:40
clarkbthinking out loud here: it might be good to have an explicit step in the opensatck release process where old stuff is cleaned up before new branches are made. This way we avoid propogating these issues into the future16:40
clarkbnote this isn't a requirements specific issue. Tempest and devstack have similar problems16:44
elodillesmnasiadka: in openstack/releases under deliverables/_independent/ a yaml file needs to be created. see examples there16:52
elodillesclarkb: hmmm. the EOL "process" or "steps" had a section about removing things that aren't used after EOL'ing, though i think it was hard to teams to find these things. furthermore, when we do a "mass EOL'ing of rest of the repos" like we did with stein, train and ussuri, i think this was not checked16:55
clarkbelodilles: EOL is too late16:55
elodillesi see16:55
clarkbelodilles: I'm saying before stable/next is branched do a quick audit and cleanup of stuff that is too old16:55
elodillesyes, just wanted to say, that maybe AFTER release teams have to revise their zuul configs?16:56
clarkbelodilles: as an example this upcoming stable/next won't have support for $olddistro (maybe I don't know for sure) drop that content now16:56
clarkbthe thing I'm running into is opensuse leap and debian buster have ended up in very modern branch configs16:57
clarkbbut neither have really been relevant for years16:57
elodillesclarkb: i think even better to drop it in the beginning of a new cycle16:57
clarkbI expect I will hit similar with centos 716:57
clarkbelodilles: ya thats what I'm suggesting16:57
clarkbbasically do housekeeping at release time so that we don't propogate this tech debt forward another release16:57
elodillesi'll add a reminder to talk about this during the release meeting on Friday, if that's OK to you17:00
clarkbyup mostly want to bring it up as a concern and I think the release checklist might be a good place to mitigate some of the problems17:00
elodilles+117:01
fricklerwith my devstack hat on, I've often met resistance to e.g. removing nodesets, because $whoever might still be using it and we don't have a good way to track. so in that context I think "early in the cycle" would work better17:51
mnasiadkaelodilles: thanks19:21
clarkbstatusbot should make a note of it momentarily but we are going to restart gerrit soon to do a minor gerrit upgrade22:34
-opendevstatus- NOTICE: Gerrit on review.opendev.org will be restarted to perform a minor upgrade to the service.22:34
clarkbI don't see any release activity in zuul right now22:34
