abhishekk++ croelandt 14:05
pranaliAs everyone knows 2024.2 virtual PTG is during second week of April,14:05
pranaliI have created the PTG planning etherpad and added some topics , please add the topics which you want to discuss during PTG14:05

pranalicroelandt, that was super quick :)14:06
pranalithanks14:06
pranaliok, moving to next topic14:06
pranali#topic release/periodic jobs updates14:06
pranali rc1 is in next week14:07
pranaliand  Periodic jobs are all green14:07
pranalimoving to next14:07
pranali#topic castellan 4.4.0 and glance unit test change (rosmaita)14:07
rosmaitai think there's nothing to do here now14:08
pranaliyeah14:08
tkajinamjust review and merge that unit test fix14:08
tkajinamoh, was it merged ?14:08
rosmaitait's merged!14:08
tkajinamthen all good14:09
tkajinamone potential follow up is that we may want a fixture class from castellan14:09
tkajinamone thing which surprised me was that glance imports things from castellan.tests directly14:09
tkajinamI'll look into that when I get time14:09
rosmaitaprobably because the team working on castellan did the glance work, too14:10
rosmaita(for image signature verification)14:10
tkajinamyeah14:10
tkajinamI saw nova is trying to add a few more tests relying on castellan.tests so it may be a good chance to refactor it14:10
tkajinambefore we have tight dependency there14:11
tkajinamanyway it's not urgent. thanks for reviewing the change :-)14:11
pranalitkajinam, Thanks !14:11
pranalimoving to next topic14:12
pranali#topic feature/metadata-caching branch has been deleted (rosmaita)14:12
pranali#link https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/releases/+/632518 14:12
rosmaitayeah, just a point of information in case anyone notices it disappeared14:12
pranali it was created long back ago for metadata caching work experiments14:12
rosmaitamake sure you do a 'git fetch --all --prune' and it will be gone from your local repo14:12
pranalirosmaita, yeah14:12
pranaliack14:13
pranalimoving ahead14:14
pranali#topic Update about vmware store driver (tkajinam)14:14
tkajinamthis is probably a better topic for upcoming ptg but let me give early input14:14
tkajinamas you may know, discussions about vmware support in nova had some progress and the current direction is that they keep the driver, because SAP committed to add 3rd party CI and help maintaining the implementation in upstream14:15
tkajinam(although the situation is still monitored, it's actively being worked on14:15
tkajinamAs far as shared in ml, SAP uses only vmware drivers in nova and cinder, so they have no plan to add CI coverage of vmware store driver in glance_store14:16
abhishekkOnly concern is we will not be able to verify new functionality support to that driver unless someone volunteers to maintain it and available at crucial time14:16
tkajinamyeah14:17
rosmaitawell, we could propose removing the vmware driver and say that you have to use the cinder store instead to use a vmware backend14:17
abhishekkthat is another workaround ++14:17
tkajinamah, that makes sense14:17
rosmaitait seems reasonable, and then we can use the time not working on vmware store to implement functional tests for the cinder store driver14:18
abhishekkRecently we got issue in s3 which we were unable to debug and provide assist for it,now we are going to discuss that in upcoming PTG14:19
tkajinamyeah14:19
pranalishall we add this topic in PTG etherpad?14:19
tkajinamso I was wondering if we can discuss a bit about CI coverage policy14:19
rosmaitatkajinam: ++ 14:19
tkajinamthe mailing list discussion is moving toward the direction "someone needs it but do not commit to maintain it"14:20
abhishekkthat's the problem is14:20
tkajinambut since glance currently has no strict policy so there is no clear "rule" to reject is14:20
tkajinamto reject it14:20
rosmaitai propose that we say we are definitely planning to remove vmware driver in Dalmatian, and that we focus on a CI policy & implementation at the PTG14:20
abhishekkI agree that we don't have coverage for s3 but for cinder we have tempest coverage14:20
tkajinamok14:21
tkajinamso I'll update the thread with two things14:21
tkajinam - probably cinder store driver can be an alternative solution14:21
tkajinam - if anyone wants to keep vmware driver then join PTG discussion. however people should note that the current preference in the team is to require 3rd party CI to have actual test coverage.14:21
tkajinamthen we can discuss further in PTG.14:22
abhishekk++14:22
rosmaitadid we merge the deprecation patch?14:22
abhishekkPlease include PTG reference etherpad in mail reply as well14:22
tkajinamyeah, deprecation was merged14:22
rosmaitaok, good14:22
rosmaitaemail proposal sounds good to me14:23
pranali++14:23
abhishekk* glance PTG planning etherpad14:23
tkajinamacked for etherpad reference14:23
rosmaitaright, i mean email sounds good with the etherpad link included14:24
tkajinamI'll try to join the glance ptg... I may bring a small topic (migration script cleanup) as well, but need to arrange my availability as I may have some topics for nova for next cycle.14:25
tkajinamthat's all I wanted to discuss now. thanks. please feel free to chime in to the thread14:25
abhishekkcool, thank you tkajinam san for your contribution in glance 14:25
tkajinamI mean the mailing thread, if you want14:26
pranalitkajinam, we can schedule those topics according to your availability 14:26
rosmaitatkajinam: what is your time zone?14:27
tkajinamyeah. though I myself doesn't have strong preference about vmware driver. we have to make sure Michal, who require the driver, is available for discussion14:27
tkajinamjst, utc +914:27
rosmaitathis will take some creative scheduling ... i am utc-5 and dansmith is utc-8!14:28
tkajinamusual ptg/meeting slots(14-16 utc) works 14:28
tkajinamI'm fine with staying up late. that's much better than waking up early :-P14:28
rosmaita:D14:28
abhishekkI am missing those days when we were used to discuss these things in person :/14:29
abhishekkEveryone at that time staying up late and waking up late :p14:30
rosmaitayes, it would be nice to all be in the same TZ and then having beverages together at the end of the day14:30
abhishekk++14:31
tkajinamI can't agree more14:31
pranalilet's move to open discussions :)14:32
pranali#topic Open Discussion14:32
pranalianyone has anything else to highlight ?14:33
abhishekkrosmaita, as a TC member you can propose that we want this way of PTG :P14:33
rosmaitaonly a tc member for like 2 more weeks!14:33
abhishekkSo do it quickly :P14:33
abhishekkget it approved 14:33
pranaliabhishekk, then I would be able to attend only half of the sessions everyday :P14:34
croelandtrosmaita: Can't move tons of people without taking into account the environmental impact14:35
abhishekkwe will come to paris croelandt 14:35
croelandtso a round-trip US <-> France is basically half your carbon quota for the year, in the most optimistic scenario14:36
croelandteg, bullshit scenario14:37
croelandtThe reality is that there is no future with air travel for the masses14:37
pranalianything else guys ? or we are good to wrap up ?14:38
pranaliok, assuming there's nothing, let's wrap it up :)14:40
pranaliThanks everyone for joining !14:40
