dpawlikclarkb, fungi: hey, someone against to add users account: tristanC and nhicher on logscraper01.openstack.org ?14:56
fungidpawlik: feel free to do so14:57
dpawlikthanks fungi14:57
dpawlikfungi: would like to start logscraper + loggearman there and check with Reed how its working14:58
dpawlikeh, not this reed, but Reed_ :)14:58
fungiyeah, we've also hit a snag with the dns setup it seems, i was just replying to Reed_ by e-mail a moment ago14:59
fungiopenstack.org dns is hosted in rackspace's dns service, and it doesn't allow creation of custom subdomain ns resource records, instead it forces you to create a new zone which the ns rrs will be at the root of15:00
fungithat seems to work for delegation as far as resolvers are concerned, but results in also serving an soa for that subdomain's zone, and that seems to cause some problem for delegating to aws's dns service, which you have to use if you want them to autogenerate ssl certs15:01
*** dviroel|rover is now known as dviroel|rover|lunch15:01
fungihe didn't elaborate on exactly why that soa record is presenting a problem, but unless it can be worked around on the aws side, the workarounds on our side are bound to be ugly15:02
fungiright now i'm getting successful resolution of the opensearch.logs.openstack.org name in dns via the existing delegation, so whatever's breaking must be with something else15:03
dpawlikfungi: oh, thats complicated15:05
fungiyeah, ain't it tho15:05
dpawlikfungi: at home I'm still got an issue on resolving that name15:05
fungiinteresting15:05
fungifungi@dhole:~$ host opensearch.logs.openstack.org15:06
fungiopensearch.logs.openstack.org is an alias for search-test-cloudformation-domain-2-rjml2ux7mxid6urm4pw2p3b4di.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com.15:06
dpawlikfungi: could you send your DNS address?15:06
fungisearch-test-cloudformation-domain-2-rjml2ux7mxid6urm4pw2p3b4di.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com has address 34.230.189.14615:06
fungisearch-test-cloudformation-domain-2-rjml2ux7mxid6urm4pw2p3b4di.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com has address 54.160.109.19715:06
fungilooks like it's a round-robin address record for those two15:06
fungiwell, it's a cname to the round robin address records15:07
dpawlikfungi: maybe the google dns and cloud flare dns got multiple instances and this one in EU is still not updated... but I can be wrong15:08
dpawlikfungi: from my side, I still can not resolve that address15:08
fungior it could be something going bad with dnssec, i suppose15:08
dpawlik"it's always dns"15:09
dpawlikI need to buy such tshirt15:09
fungi"it can't be dns. there's no way it's dns... it was dns"15:09
dpawlikexactly, this one15:10
fungii don't *think* it's dnssec causing issues though, since rackspace isn't doing dnssec for the openstack.org domain at all15:11
fungiwe do dnssec for opendev.org and similar domains hosted in opendev's nameservers, but rackspace (who hosts the openstack.org dns) doesn't15:12

dpawlikfungi: aha15:20
fungiwell, anyway, it sounds like Reed_ thinks switching to hosting the cname rrs in the openstack.org zone should work after all. originally i got the impression the reason he wanted to do it via delegation was that aws cert manager required the names be hosted in their route 53 dns provider15:23
fungibut reading between the lines, now i suspect the reason he wanted to do it via delegation was that route 53 can infer names from aws directly so that you don't have to manually add records for the services15:24
dpawlikfungi: good to know. AWS is something that I use for 4 weeks and only 2 services... It was long time ago15:50
