* morganfainberg swears he'll get that right this time.00:05
clarkbok I put my change there on logstash-worker 2000:06
clarkbit makes logstash -> elasticsearch a local connection then the local elasticsearch joins the elasticsearch cluster00:06
clarkbthis means that we can use http output while load balancing es00:06
clarkbits a bit heavy on the memory potentially00:06
openstackgerritAnita Kuno proposed a change to openstack-infra/config: Bring some uniformity to olso acl files  https://review.openstack.org/10136100:07
clarkbI kinda like it though00:07
clarkbso that is an alternative to the revert of elasticsearch http00:08
clarkband with that setup we can upgrade logstash independent of elasticsearch and still have sanish load balancing00:10
clarkbthe more I think about it the more I like it00:10
clarkband if we find logstash is still derpy we can upgrade it \o/00:11
jeblairclarkb: i've done similar colocated-scaling systems in the past with good success00:11

jeblair(not logstash, but similar idea); works well if they aren't competing for the same resources00:12
*** msabramo has joined #openstack-infra00:12
clarkbin this case they aren't really. The cpu and memory load for local non master non data elasticsearch doesn't look to bad. Its mostly IO00:12

clarkbmostly I really didn't like howmuch network IO es02 was using after switching everything to talk to it directly00:13
clarkband this change will make that IO all over the loopback interface00:14

clarkbI am going to apply that change to 16-20 to get a larger sample size00:15
clarkbthen I am walking home00:15

nibalizeroh yes the tests pass now on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/102071/ thanks clark!02:26
anteayajhesketh: so kind of -behaviour contrary to expectations-02:27
clarkbnibalizer: woot02:27
anteayahmmm, okay that is fair02:27
clarkbnibalizer: anyways think of job groups as grouping together many templates. your job isn't a good example beacuse its 1:1 right now02:27
jheskethanteaya: yep02:27
clarkbnibalizer: but if you look in the devsatck.yaml file you should see why we have those02:27
anteayathough that would be covered under the requirements section, once we add that aspect to requirements02:27
mattoliveraumordred, fungi: Unrolling is the way to go, but because I was curious I did some more research and here is another way (for future reference): sudo -u $target_user -i eval 'echo $HOME' :P02:27
nibalizerclarkb: okay, yea for the future we probably want to iterate over puppet versions02:28
nibalizerbut for right now i think it sorta works02:28
anteayaonce we state that they have to outline their test intentions and get permissions, not doing that would be covered, do you not think?02:28
nibalizerdo you, and others, have a negative opinon on using RVM?02:28
nibalizeri can see how that would be a point of conflict02:28
anteayanibalizer: I thought we already did02:28
nibalizerbut i need two things, containment of ruby gems, and ruby 1.9.3 so ... its a good tool for that02:29
anteayaisn't rvm in a puppet manifest somewhere?02:29
nibalizeranteaya: oh sweet if there is precedent then thats awesome02:29
anteayaI thought there was02:29
* nibalizer git greps02:29

anteayasigh02:30
nibalizeranteaya: grepd, im the only instance of rvm in openstack-infra/config02:30
anteayaI was so excited bundler was used02:30
anteaya:(02:30
anteayawell rvm is great, if you are developing with ruby02:30
anteayait is the mixing it with puppet on servers where their could be issues02:30
anteayasince it basically conflicts with ruby package management02:31
nibalizeranteaya: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/102071/ is the patchset i've thrown up02:31
SergeyLukjanovgaryk, 104514 approved02:31

anteayanibalizer: yeah and the workflow tends to not work in our workflow02:32
anteaya:(02:32
anteayait makes me sad but that is what I have observed02:32
anteayasince rvm upgrades and updates come from the command line02:33
anteayanot from package upgrades02:33
nibalizerso rspec is dependency of beaker-rspec, and the tests get written in a rspec-like syntax, which as i understand it, some people don't like02:33
anteayawell rspec is just cumbersome02:33
clarkbnibalizer: thats mostly me being cranky that ruby decided they had to do unittesting special02:33
anteayafor what we already have happening02:33
nibalizeranteaya: yea, but i use rvm only on one shot bare-precise nodes, not for anything that would run an actual service02:33
