openstackgerritVishal Manchanda proposed openstack/horizon master: [WIP] Refactor error messages using handle().  https://review.opendev.org/70806913:14
mlyckaHi, has there been any movement on the javascript/angular issue?13:32
*** e0ne has quit IRC13:43
amotokimlycka: what do you mean? I cannot remember what issue you are talking about.13:52
-amotoki- hopes it is not by my beer in the evening13:52
amotokiiokiwi: ack. will check it tomorrow13:54
mlyckaamotoki: I was umming and ahhing about angular code not being reviewed and merged a couple of months ago. deshipu opined in the ML that we should drop angular entirely and stick to raw jquery.13:55
amotokimlycka: which ml thread? hopefully an URL would be appreciated.13:56
mlyckaamotoki: well, more like b-ing and moaning, but you get the picture. Either way, it keeps coming up for me and I'd really appreciate knowing where the community and leadership stands on this.13:56
-amotoki- is not a JS developer. perhaps it is time to retire horizon PTL :)13:57
mlyckaAight, hold on, I'll see if I can find it.13:57
mlyckaI can't find it I'm afraid14:00

amotokimlycka: I searched openstack-discuss archive and my received email with "angular horizon" but I cannot find anything.14:06
*** dasp has quit IRC14:08
mlyckaamotoki: It wasn't that involved really, we just had a back and forth on the value of angular in horizon14:20
amotokimlycka: my current stance is to keep what we have. I think it would be not possible to push angular impls away if we decided to do it considering the current community activities.14:21
mlyckaamotoki: Okay, but are you saying any new UI features should be implemented without angular?14:22
amotokimlycka: I am not saying so. I am okay with either,14:23
amotokimlycka:  but once a feature is implemented current active horizon reviewers tends to be familiar with python rather than JS, so JS code maintenace tends to be slow if someone steps up.14:24
mlyckaamotoki: Okay, but I go back to my original question, which is what to do about angular code not being reviewed and merged. I understand the reasons, ie not having enough angular developers, esp. with +2 rights.14:25
mlyckaamotoki: The thing is, even IF we got more people, we'd still need at least two angular devs with +2s14:25
amotokimlycka: honestly I am sure you mention angular code are not being reviewed and merged looking at the horizon review queues.14:28
mlyckaamotoki: Sorry, not sure I quite caught that14:28
amotokimlycka: I personally am still trying to review them at least if my testing works well. (of course it is not a good thing to merge codes without deeper understanding but it is the real.)14:29
mlyckaamotoki: I appreciate that. What's the take away from this though: is Horizon going to keep Angular and can new features be implemented in it expect reviews and merges? Or should we simply abandon the idea and do our UI work in pure jquery?14:31
amotokimlycka: I am okay with new features with angular. I don't want to block them. it would be super great if contributors who implement new features continue to be involved in the upstream even part-time.14:35
amotokiFrom the nature of python dev community of OpenStack, it is not easy to ensure the quality of JS codes....14:36
mlyckaI know, I get that, but this is a high level decision that kinda needs to be made and possibly set in stone. I keep putting off fixes and feature requests, because I'm unsure if I should work on them in angular and risk them never getting in or implement them in the 'legacy way' for lack of a better term.14:40
mlyckaSorry, I know I keep harping on this, but it's becoming an issue for me.14:41
-amotoki- is feeling burning out a bit and in a negative mode14:43

NizarsHi!17:31
NizarsI have followed a tutorial I found through youtube17:32
Nizarshttps://github.com/doug-fish/sample-horizon-angular-plugin17:32
NizarsIt guides you on how to create and install a smaple plugin for horizon17:32
NizarsI am able to install the plugin without any issues17:33
NizarsBut I am not able to modify the directory names for its static files17:33
Nizarshttps://i.imgur.com/TrhUyJB.png17:38
NizarsNo matter what I do, it keeps looking for the static files in /dashboard/static/dashboard/project/sample/ instead of /dashboard/static/dashboard/project/policies/17:39
NizarsI have checked all the project files, the enabled files, the static files. Nothing at this point points horizon to any /sample/ directory.17:40
NizarsI have also restarted apache several times and it still acts this way. It is really puzzling me.17:41
NizarsWhere can I look to see why it is expecting the static files to be in /sample/ rather than /policies/?17:41
