rhagarty_doug-fish, before we go done that "one-off" road, I think it's important to understand that the cinder api for "create volume" uses GiB for size. There is no variation16:31

tqtran_ducttape_: eric, so a few questions for you. you're trying to use the keypair settings to control whether a keypair is required for the ng launch instance correct?19:59
_ducttape_correct, and some of the configurability is not in the patch20:00
_ducttape_that patch is not ready, clearly.   I was trying to get the warning icon to show up20:00
tqtranwhere is the new keypair settings?20:01
_ducttape_so it's hard coded to assume that keypairs are always required20:01
_ducttape_https://github.com/openstack/horizon/blob/master/openstack_dashboard/local/local_settings.py.example#L22620:01
hurgleburglerk good!  I was hoping to hear that … gonna clean 'em up to use bootstrap20:02
_ducttape_that new config settting was added, with python support20:02
tqtranok, I believe you can access that via the settings service20:02
_ducttape_right, and that part I wasn't too worried about just yet20:02
*** neelashah has joined #openstack-horizon20:02
tqtranhttps://github.com/openstack/horizon/blob/master/openstack_dashboard/static/app/core/openstack-service-api/settings.service.js look at the examples for usage20:04
_ducttape_cool, I'll look at that after I can find out how to make the fancy warning icon show up ;)20:05
tqtranbase on whether that is true or false, you can then change how the keypair checks for validity20:05

_ducttape_has any tried using django's cache aspects, for things like the navigation bar stuff?  It seems like a nice thing to add, as opposed to previous attempts of storing a bunch of stuff into the user session.  https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.8/topics/cache/21:42

sjmc7_ducttape_ funnily enough, i got asked yesterday what horizon is caching through django21:45
sjmc7my answer was “um”21:45
_ducttape_that's two more characters than I thought we cached :P21:45
*** haypo has left #openstack-horizon21:46
sjmc7there is some stuff that would make sense to cache, especially since i think you can provide parameters as part of the cache key21:46
*** kzaitsev_mb has quit IRC21:47
_ducttape_yep.  I was thinking using the token id and the region is one option, though I'm not sure about how visible the key might be21:47
*** neelashah has joined #openstack-horizon21:47
sjmc7the caching’s after auth21:47
_ducttape_I'm going to hack something up, see if I notice any difference21:48
sjmc7user/tenant id might be better21:48
sjmc7you know, the biggest difference i’ve got out of things has been enabling the memcached caching for keystone middleware21:48
_ducttape_yep.  the user id + tenant id is roughly the same as the token id, for most cases21:48
sjmc7most service requests spend a significant time authenticating otherwise21:48
*** kzaitsev_mb has joined #openstack-horizon21:48
_ducttape_we have keystone memcached too, seen some help21:49
sjmc7caching the nav stuff, login page etc seems sensible21:49
*** devl_ has quit IRC21:50
lhcheng_the service catalog could be cached as well, it would drop the cookie size by 60-70%21:52
sjmc7we don’t store the catalog in cookies any more, it got too big21:52
_ducttape_thats crazy talk lhcheng_21:52
lhcheng_sjmc7: cool, where do you store the catalog now?21:52
_ducttape_lhcheng_ - in keystone v3, the service catalog is still a global thing, we could cache globally, right?21:53
sjmc7umm.. db i think. we should switch it to memcache+db21:53
_ducttape_what is side, after adding cache to the nav bar:21:54
lhcheng__ducttape_:  service catalog returned by keystone has the project_id in the endpoints :( so it won't be the same for all users21:54
*** memogarcia has joined #openstack-horizon21:54
_ducttape_it caches where you are in the nav.... so it expands a certain area of the nav21:54
sjmc7:D21:54
sjmc7feature!21:54
_ducttape_what is sad*21:54
_ducttape_lhcheng_ - we could still cache it then, add the project id in the cache21:55
_ducttape_as the key21:55
_ducttape_when you login, reset the value for that project etc21:56
*** saksham has left #openstack-horizon21:56

sjmc7isn’t that what the session_backend is for?21:57
*** flwang1 has joined #openstack-horizon21:58
lhcheng__ducttape_: yup, that could work21:58
_ducttape_thats the issue, the session backend (when you have a cookie session backend) blows up sjmc721:58
sjmc7right - but if you’re going to separately cache the catalog wouldn’t you be better off switching backends?21:59
sjmc7also stuff will fall out of the cache21:59
_ducttape_perhaps, but you could handle that easily enough21:59
_ducttape_you have a token id, you can go grab the catalog again if you need it22:00
_ducttape_but ideally when a user logs in, you would say "store this catalog for my token lifespan + 10 minutes"22:00
_ducttape_so it would fall out, but only when you don't care about it22:01
*** mounica has quit IRC22:01
_ducttape_and ideally, yes - we should switch session backends.   but evidently devstack is very hard to setup and work with, and changing that is a hassle.  (troll)22:02
_ducttape_;)22:02

sjmc7:)22:03
_ducttape_my testing, adding the django cache to the side nav - it does not make a big difference.   It's probably within +/- 50ms on average22:06
_ducttape_that is informal testing, but I feel like it's enough to say this is not the cache we are looking for22:06
