ildikovfungi: frickler: sorry for disappearing, I've been transiting and adjusting to time zone differences, etc. I grabbed the bounce email from the person, they received it from starlingx-discuss-bounces@lists.starlingx.io with text in that says "Ignoring non-text/plain MIME parts No such command: the" etc00:49
ildikovI forwarded the entire mail to fungi 00:49
fungithanks ildikov, i'll track it down02:50
fungiildikov: i see the problem, he sent his message to starlingx-discuss-request rather than starlingx-discuss. he probably unwittingly replied to a subscription confirmation message or something03:01
fungithe cryptic response he received is because his message went to the command address rats03:02
fungier, went to the command address rather that the posting address03:03
fungithe backspace and enter keys are too close together on this netbook03:03

mnasiadkaHello10:41
mnasiadkaIs mention-user-support (https://www.gerritcodereview.com/3.7.html#mention-user-support) enabled in OpenDev Gerrit instance?10:42
fricklermnasiadka: as this is marked a experimental I don't think so, codesearch doesn't find "UiFeature__mention_users" anywhere either. I'm also not sure how useful that would be, in my experience I mostly need to ping people via other channels if they don't react on being added to cc/reviewer on their own10:52
mnasiadkafrickler: got asked by people more used to github :)10:54
apevecamoralej: one more suggestion inline11:49
opendevreviewAlfredo Moralejo proposed opendev/system-config master: Use centos hosted mirror to sync CentOS content  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/system-config/+/90803011:53
*** d34dh0r5- is now known as d34dh0r5314:57
Clark[m]mnasiadka: ya we don't typically enable experiments when upgrading Gerrit. There is usually enough change to not need to opt into those. That said we run 3.8 now not 3.7. It is possible that experiment has been "promoted". Have you tested it? Seems trivial to test on a change15:02
fungipart of the risk with gerrit "experiments" is that they have a much higher chance of getting abandoned sooner. if a feature is clearly marked as "experimental" then they don't feel the need to provide any continuity or backward compatibility in the next release15:04
mnasiadkaClark[m]: tried, it doesn't autocomplete usernames, so I think it's still an experiment - or it got abandoned ;-)15:04
fungialso gerrit "usernames" aren't intended to be public-facing handles really. even though you *can* use them as identifiers, it normally displays them almost nowhere and expects you to use a display name or preferred e-mail15:06
mnasiadkahmm, suggest edits got promoted in 3.9 from experiment, that's interesting15:06

fungii'm heading out for lunch and to run some errands, but should be back by 18:00 utc at the latest16:04
clarkbenjoy!16:07
clarkbmnasiadka: ya I suspect that the editor for that might be clunky (I think it is the same one for doing file edits on changes and it doesn't handle larger files well), but could still be a helpful tool16:08
mnasiadkaclarkb: actually I hate that editor in dark mode ;-) I can't see a thing when it colorizes syntax ;-)16:11
ildikovfungi: ah, I sensed that might be the case, but couldn't make it out from the bounce response. Thank you for untangling this!16:15
clarkbmnasiadka: not all experiments are as successful as others :) fwiw I don't use the dark mode mostly out of familiarity with the default16:27
clarkbI think fungi does and may have pointers though16:27
clarkbthere may be settings somewhere to make that better?16:27
fungiildikov: fwiw, the bounce didn't say what address they e-mailed, i did a web search for some of the beginning of the response in relation to the mailman mailing list software and quickly realized it was a response from the request address, then filtered the inbound mailserver logs for any mention of his address around the time that response was generated (adjusting for the timezone it had been17:31
fungitranslated into)17:31
fungiwhich confirmed what address he'd actually sent his message to17:31
clarkbfungi: I wonder if we should ask mm3 to provide a better message17:32
clarkbthe error about "the" can probably do some better parsing and emit a "this is probably not th address you wanted to send to as this is for subsciption confirmation only" or something like that17:32
fungiclarkb: yeah, we can probably edit the template to start with "if you meant to post to the mailing list, use this address instead: ..."17:32
fungimnasiadka: i do ostensibly use "dark mode" but really i barely use gerrit's webui at all, and have never (to my recollection) tried its file editor feature17:36
opendevreviewClark Boylan proposed opendev/system-config master: Update etherpad to 1.9.7  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/system-config/+/90832817:37
clarkbif ^ passes testing then we can rebase the forced fail change on top to hold a node and test17:37
clarkbI dug around and it appears the changes to plugin installations don't require updates to the Dockerfile? At least upstream didn't update their dockerfile for this17:37
clarkbits possible their dockerfile is broken though so we should hold a node and test17:37
clarkbfungi: I see email indicating the EMS transaction occured as expected and the zuul matrix room continues to work17:38
fungiyep, lgtm too17:39
fungiamorin: in case you didn't see my ping yesterday, we received the 7-day warning from ovh that our free account credits have expired. i'll follow up by e-mail later today as well17:44
fungiand looks like the borg volume on backup02.ca-ymq-1.vexxhost is at 90%, i'll go ahead and prune it now17:45
clarkbcpio won't copy over things if files already exist where it wants to put dirs. Then somehow I ended up with a broken install of zypper that I had to do surgery on and rerunning zypper afterwards now says it will uninstall zypper17:54
clarkbI'm beginning to wonder if I need to reinstall my laptop. That might be a quicker path to resolution17:55
fungiick. there are times when i'm glad debian chose ar instead of cpio for its package format17:55
clarkbI think I managed to get things resolved. I basically had to rpm -i --force a few packages out of the download cache and then restarting the process appears to have gotten it around that cpio issues18:07
clarkbI'm guessin there were some transition points in the tumbleweed package updates and I tried skipping straight through and it broke18:07
fungii've e-mailed amorin from our infra-root address, forwarding a copy of the invoice and asking for our free ovh credits for the ci/cd system to be renewed for another year18:09
clarkbthanks!18:13
fungiunfortunately, the notification from tuesday said that they'd tried to bill us on friday, so i'm not sure if the 7-day countdown starts from the attempted billing date or the notification date. we might want to merge a change tomorrow to temporarily take ovh's swift regions out of our log upload targets just in case18:17
opendevreviewClark Boylan proposed opendev/system-config master: DNM force etherpad failure to hold node  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/system-config/+/84097218:29
clarkbhold is in place for ^18:30
clarkbfungi: maybe we should go ahead and boot a new keycloak server and start preparing things for applying the udpated deployment to it?18:42
fungioh, yeah i suppose that can be done before merging the change rather than after, i'll adjust the plan and do it that way18:56
clarkbya I think worst case we end up deleting a server didnd't need?18:56
clarkbbut on the plus side keeps forward momentum going18:56
opendevreviewJames E. Blair proposed opendev/system-config master: Document gerrit comment deletion procedure  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/system-config/+/90833518:57

fungihttps://etherpad.opendev.org/p/clarkb-test lgtm20:35
fungion that held node20:35
clarkbthanks I'll check it out in a bit myself20:37
clarkbcurrently just trying to find the motivation to go outside int he cold20:37
fungii got it over with earlier. now i can sit inside by the fire and boot servers20:38

opendevreviewJeremy Stanley proposed opendev/system-config master: Add backups for the new Keycloak server  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/system-config/+/90835921:41
fungiinfra-root: all the upcoming changes to put the new keycloak server into production are up for review and passing tests now, linked in https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/keycloak-refresh-2024 but also all have topic:keycloak-images in case that's more convenient. everything is safe to merge until you reach the wip changes, which we'll merge when we're ready for the production cut-over22:07
fungii booted the new server, and have put the current production server into our emergency disable list in preparation so that ansible doesn't try to upgrade it (relatively unavoidable since, as discussed in the meeting, there's no clean in-place upgrade solution to cross from the old wildfly images to the quarkus images)22:11

opendevreviewMerged opendev/zone-opendev.org master: Add DNS entries for new Keycloak server  https://review.opendev.org/c/opendev/zone-opendev.org/+/90834822:53
fungiclarkb: answered your nit on 907141, probably close to half my change revisions were burned on trying to get the nested quoting composition to come out just right22:55
fungii ended up having to take advantage of both string formatting and triple-quoted strings since you can have unescaped doublequotes inside them22:57
fungiand also line continuations22:58
fungiand raw strings22:58
fungii agree it's a shambles22:58
ildikovfungi: ah, I thought you looked into the server logs or smth like23:03
fungiildikov: yep, eventually, in order to confirm my suspicions, i just didn't start there23:05
