hirokidmsimard: the ARA UI shows the name of the playbook file for each run. I was wondering if that value is modifiable to show the full path instead of just the actualy filename ? We run a multitude of different playbooks on the same host (1 host layer playbook, or multiple service layer playbooks which sits on top of the host layer), however all playbooks are referenced as site.yml. It would make it easier to15:48
hirokiidentify a specific run 'type' by showing the full pathname instead15:48
hirokiThere's quite some white space between the filename and the next column depicting the total time spent running the playbook. So I figured, 1+1=2 ;)15:49
dmsimardhiroki: things like giving playbook names and grouping them with labels is going to be built-in in 1.015:49
dmsimardhiroki: the current implementation is a compromise because I suck at frontend :)15:50
hirokiOh ! Great, then we'll be waiting for 1.0, thanks ! :)15:50
dmsimardit used to be the full path (truncated to a max amount) because some paths were very large15:51
dmsimardbut then you end up with a fairly similar issue15:51
dmsimardwhere instead of site.yml, all you see is /home/user/some/path/playbook.yml15:51
dmsimard(and it might get truncated before the interesting part)15:51
hirokiHmm, that's also true. A tag or a definable Ansible variable that shows up in the reports page would be another option15:51
hirokiYou could truncate the Arab way, from right to left, as usually the most interesting part is at the end15:52
hirokiFor instance, we have '/srv/uhd/baseline-e2054044/data/site.yml' and '/srv/usd/traefik-722cdf87/data/site.yml'15:53
hirokiWe would really only be interested in the 'uhd/baseline-e2054044' or 'usd/traefik-722cdf87' parts, so a tag or label is indeed more appropriate15:53

dmsimardthe general idea with tags in 1.0 is that they will be dynamic15:55
dmsimardin the sense that, for example, there'd be nothing preventing you from creating a tag "failed playbooks" and then tagging failures as such -- so you can browse playbooks matching that tag15:56
dmsimardor perhaps you're running a set of playbooks with "phases" like bootstrap/config/deploy/etc15:56
hirokiSounds great ! How would you pass on a tag from the playbook to ARA ?15:57
dmsimardIt's not 100% clear yet, but the API and backend is built to support it16:04
dmsimardas in, tagging a playbook is an API call16:05
dmsimardso we just need to figure out what's the most convenient way to use it16:05
dmsimardwhether that's an ansible module, a CLI command, etc16:05
hirokiEven better16:05
hirokiWhat about defining Playbook variables ara_* and ARA picks them up if they exist16:06
dmsimardmaybe16:07
hirokiThis is how we currently identify unique playbooks -> https://i.imgur.com/FtYjoRm.jpg16:09
hirokiWe're thinking of writing to InfluxDB for every significant stage / step the playbook takes and putting Grafana on top to aggregrate results platform wide16:10
dmsimardthere's folks from the tripleo project who are already doing great things with ara and influxdb :)16:10
hirokiOh good tip, i'll check it out16:10

dmsimardhttps://github.com/openstack/tripleo-quickstart-extras/blob/master/roles/collect-logs/tasks/ara_influxdb.yml16:11
dmsimardit's not very generic but probably good enough to get you started16:11
hirokiNoice :)16:11
