drabhi14:18
drabcongrats on the new release14:19
dmsimarddrab: thanks :)14:19
drabI'm wondering if the intention of ARA is and will remain purely an "ansible visualizer" or if there's an intention to add functionalities to run playbooks (unless that's already there and I missed it somehow)14:20
drabI'm basically looking at ways to make it easier for part ofthe orgs to run ansible and some solutions such as rundeck came up14:20
drabbut they don't really offer the power of ARA in terms of feedback of a run14:20
dmsimarddrab: ARA does not and will not offer management features -- the lack of management features is a feature in itself :)14:22
dmsimardIt means ARA is super easy to install and use and does not require you to change your existing Ansible workflows14:22
dmsimardThere's a FAQ around this particular topic which references Rundeck: https://ara.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#why-don-t-you-use-ansible-tower-rundeck-or-semaphore14:23
drabdmsimard: that's great, I can totally support that, just wanted to confirm to decide what to do next14:23
*** iceyao has quit IRC14:23
draboh, I had missed that one, thanks14:23
dmsimarddrab: I've never used rundeck before so I don't really know how it actually runs Ansible but if it is possible to configure a callback, perhaps you can use ARA from within Rundeck or something.14:23
dmsimarddrab: for example, there was an issue to add integration in molecule ( https://github.com/metacloud/molecule/issues/728 ) but molecule allows you to use arbitrary callbacks out of the box so there was no need for a native integration14:24
drabyep, I'm sure I can figure something out like that14:25
drabaltho as it stands, for similra reasons to yours in keeping ara simple, I'm actually considering writing something in flask14:25
drabbut then you have a resistence to the NIH syndrome, which I've been lucky enough to be vaccinated against at early age :P14:26
dmsimardthe ara web application is built with flask, it's great to work with :)14:26
draboh, neat, yeah I like flash14:26
drabflask*14:26
drabI definitely do not like flash...14:26
drab:)14:27
dmsimardlol14:27
drabspeaking of which, this is the other project a was considering, less known in the ansible circle as I never seen it mentioned but seems really nice: https://github.com/trondhindenes/flansible14:31
drabanother flask project, basically an ansible runner, very minimal, might give that a go to combat NIH while avoiding bloatware14:32
draband should be simple enough to integrate with ARA14:33
dmsimardYeah, there's a couple of open source projects that allows you to run ansible remotely and/or provide an API .. Semaphore and such. It really highlights that there's a need for that kind of use case. Tower needs to go open source ASAP :)14:33
drabtbh I don't get semaphore, every time I looked at it I came back more puzzled14:33
drabtheir website is just an api endpoint list and I can't quite figure out how it works exactly14:34

dmsimardMadhu: hi there17:06
dmsimardMadhu: I guess you've installed ara through pip ?17:06
